So i went just following up on my Speedy " re-engrave serial number " : ) & got to talk to one of the reps there! apparently what they have been hearing is the new 321 movement is gonna have a solid gold case & a steel model & this is gonna be launch in NASA maybe a week or so.. from today! can't confirm if all the info is accurate but thats what they told me : ) so i guess we'll have to wait a little bit to find out : )
Omega have been teasing this for a while now. I contacted my local AD who knew nothing about it. They contacted Omega who said they had no more information to release. As a result, I've asked my AD to put me on any provisional list and call the moment they know what's coming out. Speaking to another member, he's on a firm list with his AD for one. So, yes: something's coming that's powered by a new 321. As for the final form, it's mostly whispers.
I don't think there will be cal 321 steel model this year...let's wait and see... Definitely interesting year for Omega collectors!
Omega's opportunity to host an important Speedmaster/spaceflight-related commemorative event as the next big remembrance will be 75 years Apollo 11 and none of the Apollo-era astronauts will be around... So probably an event involving Buzz Aldrin... etc etc... Cerca Trova
Seems to tie into the rumor I heard last week for the announcement to be made in Huntsville at the US Space and Rocket Center https://omegaforums.net/threads/new-speedmaster-50th-anniversary-of-moon-landing-rumors.89260/ Looking forward to something official!
BTW -- 20 February is the anniversary of John Glenn's first orbital flight by the US. As far as I know, Glenn didn't wear a Speedy, but, perhaps, a NASA anniversary is all Omega needs to make a tie-in.
(People already on lists that do not even exist... Interesting.) If the 321 comes on a SS model, that's great news!
So exciting! Surprised they didn't do this earlier... I'm guessing it will have a display caseback to view the movement.
No the entire omega community. Meh, done with modern. Will keep my ST1 sell the ST2 to fund a 16610 and dive back into the vintage pool.
Should be so easy for Omega to made quite a good money. They just need to check forums. I can’t imagine why they don’t apply allready 321 with applied logo and a Don bezel.
I assume they are probably trying to milk the 321 fanboys with the expensive precious metal version first because they know people will pay. Then the stainless will follow to mop up the rest. That’s my guess anyway.
I should be getting it back a week or so... but im not sure if the case is gonna get replaced or maybe buff out the old clean & re-engrave.
Agreed. I also remember somebody saying the Apollo XI wouldn't be too limited so everybody could have a decent chance of getting one. That doesn't match with the aura of exclusivity they're trying to lend the new 321. I guess we'll know more in a few days.
I don't think so... as Glenn's mission had nothing to do with Omega ( he used a TAG Heuer stopwatch ) The date link is a nice proposition as there are more upcoming " important " Omega Speedmaster related spaceflight dates: March 23 = first official use of the Omega Speedmaster by John Young & Virgil Grissom on Gemini III in 1965 April 16 th = Apollo 13 CMP Jack Swigert used his NASA-issued Speedmster to time the 14 seconds LM DPS burn in 1970 May 15 = Leroy Gordo Cooper wore his personal Omega Speedmaster CK2998-4 during MA-9 mission in 1963 June 3rd = EVA - spacewalk of Edward White on Gemini IV in 1965
Could be April 3rd. Omega is sponsoring a broad exhibition on the moonlanding and the moonwatch at Grand Palais in Paris, starting April 3rd.
