I am looking to buy a Omega bracelet for my Planet Ocean 2909.50 and I note that Otto Frei carries it. By chance I will be in San Francisco tomorrow and I thought I would stop by their store in Oakland. Their website says to stop by if you are in town, but the Street View picture of their location does not show a welcoming environment. Has anyone ever been there?? What should I expect?
I was there several years back. The area is fine. It is mixed industrial/retail. However, you should call them about Omega parts. I think I heard they had their Omega account canceled. From what I remember about the store, it was pretty disorganized/chaotic.
I just spoke with them by phone. The bracelet I want is in stock. They have one left. However, if I buy it in person I have to pay 10% CA sales tax. I think I'll buy it online!
It's worth going, just to snag a pen from the counter. Not just any pen mind you, a solid $0.20 pen. Very lucrative, if you were to visit everyday for ten thousand years, you could cash in bigtime! Surprised nobody has done it yet.
Technically, you'll owe use tax to your home state (ct => Connecticut?) when you return home. Make sure you fill out that box on your state tax return next year! gatorcpa
I went there once to get a bezel remover. It's not tournea. Order what you need online and spend you visit on other things.
I watched their YouTube video's, that was enough to convince me that a visit in person wasn't a good idea.
Your supposed to pay tax to your home state on everything you buy where tax wasn't charged. If your state tax is 10% and you buy a $10 item on ebay your supposed to give the state $1 when you file your taxes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Use_tax
That sounds like sound advice. But they do have a bracelet in stock that I need and I don't seem to be able to locate one elsewhere. I did miss one on this forum in 2014, though. And there are some for sale on eBay, but there is no real price advantage.
I've been there a few times they certainly have the inventory but it's not anything to look at. More like a warehouse than a showroom.
