Hi Guys My dad was given a very old Omega watch. I just want to know if its real or fake and what model/year is it? All i know if that it is a manual winding watch Regards
I don't think Omega ever produced a caseback with those markings/features clearly stated. They were either plain, or had a logo like the Seamaster hippocampus, Constellation observatory, Speedmaster Pegasus etc. The dial, however, looks fine, and the case seems to be on the small size for an 18mm lug width. My guess is you have a Cal 26x from the 50s/60s that has been shoehorned into a different watch brand/custom case. I can only advise that you take the watch to a watchmaker to open the caseback and verify the reference inside and on the movement. A close up shot of the dial, along with one preferably showing 'Swiss' or 'Swiss Made' at the bottom of the dial would be useful too.
So this case is not an original omega? My dad got given to him by one of his Master students who is in his 70s. There is no 'Swiss Made' Anywhere
Case is not original Omega, movement inside and dial are probably quite real. It doesn't look like the fakes you find inside this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/don...omegas-post-them-here-not-for-questions.6235/
I wouldn't dismiss it so fast. IMO, it looks like it's a 40's Omega. I believe I have seen similar casebacks before and the case is familiar for sure.
Not a perfect match for the OP watch, but here's a 1942/1943 Omega Officer owned by @tdn-dk, ref. 2299: What is that Speedmaster Pegasus, by the way?
Omega hasn't got the imagination - it's a hippocampus like on the Seamasters I'd wish someone like @tdn-dk, @gatorcpa or @Tire-comedon would pass by, they know their stuff about these earlier references.
It has Omega DNA and I would offer that it's all genuine. BUT! As @efauser pointed out, we need all of the secret numbers that are INSIDE the watch.
Don't forget Omega did not send cases in the early days and most of the above case backs you have mentioned are several years later than the above watch. Swiss and Swiss made started later as well.
Maybe i should take it to omega or a watchmaker to check it out. What would something like this watch be worth?
Not a whole lot. If the movement is looking fine, perhaps up to $300. To a certain extent, the value is in the dial condition and that is pretty far gone.
Monetary value: around the $150-$300 mark. Sentimental value as a memento of your father's? Priceless.
Just to complement, I think the OP is not an original Omega case, but need to have a look Inside to be sure of that. Here are a couple of other types of Omega factory outside engravings from the 40's :
