·What did you use to brace the copper together?
A radial press. You should be able to rent them in every bigger tool shop, at least that's what we did. I think buying one wouldn't be very economical for a single project as they start around 550€.

Ah yes, I wasn't really sure if "bracing" was the right term, it seems "pressfitting" is what this method is generally called.
