Hello,

I am a Seamaster guy and dont know much about Speedmasters. I have been trying to identify which year range this vintage one that belongs to my father is.

The story behind it is, my grandfather gave it to my father in 1969, it was not new at the time but as used. My father does not recall anything getting changed out over the years and he still wears it regularly since 1969.

My guess is based on the hands, that it is a 105.003 model from 1963-1965 due to the straight lugs and the hands. However what is throwing me off is the seconds hand is squared off on the bottom, where of these early years I only see ones where the bottom of the second hand is more arrow shaped, and it’s not something you see until after 1965? Unless the second hand got replaced at some point?

Does it say Swiss Made at 6 o’clock or T Swiss Made T?

Either way, the second hand, bezel and bracelet have all been replaced.

Ok so it’s a 2998-62 or a 105.002.

As I said, the chrono hand (possibly all hands), bezel and bracelet have all been replaced and it seems the crown has as well.

That bezel type, chrono hand and bracelet didn’t come out until around 69-71 so perhaps your grandad had it serviced before gifting it to you dad. Or, your dad had it serviced in the 70’s sometime and forgot about it. Certainly those parts aren’t original.

Still a nice watch though and should clean up nicely.

I just got out of him / he faintly remembers the crown getting replaced a few decades ago, but he doesn’t remember anything else ever getting replaced when he had it since then.

Makes sense about my grandfather getting it serviced before giving it to him way back in 1969 or getting the watch in that state.

Thanks for the info.
