This one has become available and I'm wondering your thoughts on it as well as what you think reasonable value would be.
Comes with the full box and papers and it said to be a 1991 vintage

What do you think of its condition, originality, polishing dot-dot-dot?

    Thanks in advance!

The watch looks pretty clean from what I see. You need photos of the movement though, and most recent service if possible. you also need more photos of the sides and lugs of the watch to get an idea about polishing. I've been seeing watches like this listed for $3,700-$4,300 range. What is your seller asking?

I've asked for more photos. Asking price is $4,500. Most recent service was in 2018 but not by an Omega service center.

Would want better photos of the dial and lume as from this one shot it looks like it’s lost some on the 5 marker

Requested a bunch more photos. I'll certainly share them when I get them!

Okay, here are the photos as well as a photo of the movement. It looks pretty tremendous to me, but that's why I'm asking you because just because it looks good to me doesn't mean it's the real deal!

    And if you like it, what would be a fair offer to make on it, do you think? IMG_7704.jpg IMG_7703.jpg IMG_7702.jpg IMG_7701.jpg IMG_7700.jpg IMG_7699.jpg IMG_7698.jpg IMG_7697.jpg IMG_7696.jpg IMG_7695.jpg IMG_7693.jpg IMG_7687.jpg Screenshot_20190706-192311_Chrome.jpg

Looks nice. Polished but still has some sharpness to it. Movement looks good. That's too expensive though, I'd be in the $3,400 - $3,700 range. If you're patient, one will pop up.

Thanks. He says unpolished, but that might be what he was told. I don't get a sense that he is saying things to lie about it.

I think it’s too much for it. The side of the case. Has a nick that can hardly be seen. He angled the watch where you can hardly see it. I think the above advice is correct. With some patience. You can save yourself 500 plus dollars. Good luck.

+1 on the price range. I’d say $4500 is a tad high unless there is something special about it (local, you like the watchmaker who did the service). I just sold (read 2 weeks ago) full set 1992 for $3650 for price comparison.

I do think that is often the case. Patience is the key to finding the right piece. This isn’t a super old piece and I don’t think it classifies as being a rarity. There will be others that come up for sale.

Aesthetically the watch looks great, I wouldn’t pay $4.5 for it, but it looks great. Maybe the seller will come down a touch and you can land a serviced piece.

Agree that this is a lovely piece and nice set. The price is closer to what I'd expect to see for an older watch, like a 145.022-76 or -78, so I'd dicker a bit with the seller!

I even mentioned the possibility that this was a polished piece and the seller got really incensed. 4300 is the absolute lowest he would go. I don't want to be overpaying for a vintage piece.

Let me ask you this... One of the things I had originally been considering was a birth year watch which is 1976. Is there any negatives with going the root of an older watch like one from 1976 vs one from 1990 or 1991 when it comes to reliability and servicing cost? If I want the most reliable possible watch of the Vintage area, with the newest possible one be my best bet?

Good call on the lume loss on the plots.

To my eye, I think the case is fine. I still see very sharp lines.

Personally I’d wait at that price.

A 76 speedy has the same movement and same service costs as a speedy from the nineties. Its as reliable as a speedy from the nineties. A birth year speedy might be a good option for you.
