Hey guys Hopefully this is the right place to field this question http://www.chrono24.com/en/omega/vi...arch&tab=details&urlSubpath=/search/index.htm I am new to both the world of Omega and vintage watches. But want to get into it and start collecting. I just wanted to get some expert thoughts on this watch link above, before I part with my hard earned cash. I like the vintage speedmaster. But what are good years to look for in terms of collect ability? Or what things should I look out for when looking for vintage speedmasters? Thanks for your time.
That's BIG dollars for a '76 on an 1171 bracelet, all Speedmasters Pros are good watches, but that's a lot for a common model.
I'm a bit of a novice, as I've just started researching similar Speedmasters and what I've found is $1,900-2,400 is the right range for a watch like this in a private sale - taking into account that you might have to spend a few hundred extra to have it serviced after buying. However, it's from a dealer (and they've done a service of some sort) then I suppose you're going to spend $400-1,000 more (but it's mostly just additional profit for them). I'll let other chime in to confirm those ranges aren't unreasonable.
Thanks man! Really helpful. What kind of price point should I expect/ look for for 60's-70's Speedmasters?
It varies widely depending on model, condition, and whether it has original parts or replacements. For example, the 321s are usually more expensive than the 861, but a 321 with replacement dial and hands could be less expensive than an original 861.
60s and 70s are different ballparks Once you go further back than 71 you start paying more, the further back you go, the more you pay. By the time you get to the 1950s expect to spend BMW money.
My personal opinion is that the price is a bit high for a watch that is not matching number : the serial number of the movement is round 1969 , the back case is 1976 , seconds hand is pre1968....
