Hi folks It is me, once again, asking for all the knowledgable vintage owners (aka vets) to destroy a watch. This time, however, I am interested in purchasing, and have contact with the seller... 145.022-68 - transitional 1968 For my untrained eye (thanks once again to the kind folks of Speedmaster101 (as well as @Kmart and @Foo2rama for their great advice and pointing me to the 101 site) -> have totally destroyed my retinas on their awesome site) only 'funnies' i can see are - bezel (looks service to me) - chrono hand (looks funky, lume patina not the same age -> but here I may be totally wrong) Other than that - dial decent and original - case back and number - movement serial number - movement has no graunched screws...its a dark shot but i dont really see any mismatches... All welcome to destroy it. Many thanks for your time. Any of you folks near CH soon (i.e. Baselworld ), feel free to hit me up for a beer Best regards, Eugene
Hi @eugeneandresson, other than what you pointed out already (I'm far from being an expert) I think this should come on a 1039 or early 1171 bracelet.
Hi @Speedmasterfan88 , Bracelet 1116 with 575 endlinks, according to the seller... I still cant help to feel this deal is too good to be true...
Minus points that I can see; (I don't have my bible with me ATM) Wrong second sweep Wrong bezel insert Most of the tritium has gone from the dial Bracelet looks pretty knackered All down to price I guess.
Could be the angle of the photos but the chrono and min are short. Face on pictures would be better. Bezel is wrong which would be a 2500-3000USD cost to put right Don't like that the lume has been removed. Looks like the watch has been prepared for sale.
Oh well, just checked against this chart and this was indeed issued with the Speedy between 67-71.... learn something new everyday .. .
I think the bracelet is ok for the age, just not as desirable as a 1039. The bezel is the biggest issue, case looks reasonable. Hope you get a good deal
Check the hour subdial chrono hand ... not centered while chrono not running... well known issue of "chronocreep" maybe. But this is nothing serious and usually sorted out with a service.
if you should buy it and want to replace the bracelet, there is a 1116 for sale in Germany in very nice condition (I have nothing to do with the sale btw, just remembered now that I saw one somewhere). Omega Band 1116 für Speedmaster etc., Optional("499 € VB") https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s...buttons&utm_medium=social&utm_content=app_ios
The only thing I'd add is that the case doesn't look great. The edges look soft like it's been no stranger to the polishing wheel. That coupled with the bezel are two big issues for me. The dial looks reasonable in general but appears to have lost around 1/3 to 1/2 of its lume. What price are we talking?
Hi Hi Davidt Thanks for reply. Yeah, dial should have more lume Guy wants 2500. But I am now getting more convinced it's a scam...since contact was started (roughly the time of the original post) his replies have been strange, with misinformation that doesn't match his profile. So I drop it, and trust in karma.
Personally I would hold out for a more attractive example anyway. The dial on this one just looks bad in my opinion, and the incorrect bezel would be a huge headache + much more money down the line.
Thanks @Kmart . No rush here. The longer I wait spending hard earned cash on vintage the sooner I can spend same cash on future vintage Not sure if I bought such an old one that I would try make it original. Dial and hands and movement are most important to me, other exterior items i guess depend on price. There are 2 birthyear Speedies I would really like to get my hands on...a 79, and a 2007...so regardless of above, I am looking At some point I will be allowed to post WTB for these, but again, no rush. Best regards, Eugene
