For trade is a truly all original Seiko 6217-8001 from 1966, commonly known as the 62MAS. Produced from ’65-’68, this is an early Suwa model as engraved on the caseback. Suwa 62MAS pieces are known to have the pastel green hue patina as opposed to the Daini, which had a brown/beige lume. Also note that the caseback engraving still is visible on this watch, a rare occurrence for the early 6217s. The early ones had a very light engraving, and after all these years, many have lost that engraving (even unpolished models) due to the wear from contact with the wrist. The dolphin caseback is still visible. Later models had a much deeper stamped caseback with the dolphin, and a quick google search will show you how legible and easy to see these “newer” dolphin versions still read.

I received this watch from a fellow collector and friend earlier this year. He bought it directly from the original family owners. It was purchased by a lieutenant colonel in the army, who passed it along to his grandson. The case is in great condition, appears to be untouched and unpolished as seen by the sharp lines and brush marks on the case. There are some light scratches and swirls on the polished edges of the case. The dial is in incredible shape and still reflects light beautifully with its sunburst effect. The original crystal has some scuffs which likely could be easily polished off by polywatch, but for obvious reasons I left it alone. The big crown is accurate for the watch, as small crowns were only used briefly in the very early production of the 62MAS. The lume pip at 12 oclock has patina’ed to a nice beige. The lume on the hands and markers match, and have slightly faded to varying degrees of patina. There is some slight black corrosion on some spots on the lume that are near impossible to pick up on the wrist, but the macro shots below show close ups of said regions. The original bi-directional friction bezel is in great shape with some slight wear, and is nice and tight. Movement is clean, and functions properly. The second crown position adjusts the date with no issues, and final position advances the time with no issues. Date wheel changes overnight with no issues.

Service history is unknown, although the watch keeps good time and I have not noticed any significant deviation while wearing it (keeps time to the minute over 24 hours). I do not have a timegrapher and cannot test for amplitude and accuracy. Thus, I would probably recommend servicing in the future with a watchmaker experienced with original vintage pieces. The watch will come with a vintage 19mm tropic and a 19mm stainless vintage oyster style band.

Trade value at $3,000 USD. I would be willing to add cash for the right piece. Interested in:

    · Omega Speedmasters: 145.022 (step-dial variants preferred), 3590.50
    · JLC: Reversos, Sector MC Date, Master Compressors
    · Rolex: Pre-ceramic, Milgauss, etc.

I have a 100% seller feedback on eBay and I've had several high-end transactions on various forums. References can be provided. My handle on other forums and Instagram is the same. Would prefer the buyer to have similar references if paying via goods & services. Watch is sold as-is, unless significantly not as-described. Please feel free to message me with any questions. Thanks OF for the space!
