    Hi guys
18kt Seamaster, nice thing with Omega strap, buckle and crystal with a lovely linen dial. The only thing that doesn't quite add up is that from my research this reference was a SMDV rather than a standard SM. Did standard SMs share cases with SMDVs?
The 552 is the correct movement but just need some clarification with the dial.
    Thank you in advance.

I'm pretty certain that a case reference should be unique to a particular line, but I don't know for a fact. Also, the movement gives me pause because the plates aren't the same coloe

It is pretty well documented that this reference came with both Seamaster and Seamaster DeVille on the dial. There are numerous other refs. where the same ref had different names, such as Seamaster/Seamaster 600/Seamaster 600 + Genève/Seamaster + Genéve.

I see nothing wrong with the movement, btw.

These earlier unishell Seamasters are frequently seen without the DeVille marking. Completely fine.

I never realised SMDVs could share a ref with Seamasters. I always saw SMDVs as a complete variation so it's interesting to see they can essentially be the same watch with the added De Ville on the dial.
    Thanks for the help!!

I'd say that they are less common than the DeVilles, but oddly enough probably less valuable (though only slightly...).

Yeah I often see the DeVilles priced up at a premium though I'm not sure why either!

I forget the actual years but these unishell cases first appeared around 1961, signed only 'Seamaster'.
The DeVilles appeared around 1963/4 and from this point I think they're only signed 'Seamaster DeVille'.

    Perfectly normal :)
I have owned a couple of these "pre De Villes" with a unishell in solid gold.

That's interesting to know, and would make sense as this one is a 1962!
