Are the hands on a Seamaster 120 reference 166.073 the same dimensions as those used on a Seamaster 300 reference 166.024? I would be looking to repurpose some old hands from a 166.073 to replace the new hands on my 166.024.

Check shows that model uses a 565 movement, so hands will fit. Problem is the length of the hands.

Are the 120 the same length or will they look short on the 300 dial?

Hands in the "deep blue" in picture are the old original short ones. They will fit but be far too short for a Seamaster 300.
2nd generation replacement "deep blue" hands are the same as 166.024...

I wouldn't bid on it, that same watch was sold 2 weeks ago in UKPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network. It looks weird that it's back from HK now.
My guess is that the 565 is so rusted that service won't be possible. Hands and dial are too ruined to get something from.
So add a few hundred $$ for a good condition 565 and about $400 more for luminova service hands and dial.
So I wouldn't bid higher than $500 on this wreck.

Great guidance. Possibly a fraud if the same pics from the last sale. Or maybe just worthless so someone is trying to flip and cut their losses.

I am really just looking for some old hands for my 300 so I will likely pass. If anyone finds any vintage hands out there that would fit my watch please let me know.

It sold for more than $1300!

As @uwsearch says, there looks nothing usable in the dial or hands. Run away. No, get on a large motorcycle with the throttle wide open to get away:D

The service hands for a deep blue are about 1 mm shorter for the hour and are black not stainless.

Why not get your Watchmaker to add a degraded lume to your SM300 hands?

    Cheers, Chris

Sorry, but it's not... luminova service hands are exactly the same size and silver, not black.
Original tritium were shorter on deep blue than seamaster 300 166024.
Hands are black on 166.091 "pilot case" and 166.0177 "SHOM".

I probably should just have someone just layer on some vintage looking lume. I have corresponded with Jack at IWW and just need to pull the trigger.

I have a soft spot for actual vintage though so may the search will continue.

I may be mistaken but built an SM120 from parts at Christmas and Cousins sold me those hands for a deep blue. Perhaps they're mis listed but they look the correct length. I also built an SM300 last year and they had the same hands as the OPs.

I doubt they're SHOM hands as that's a different calibre on the other hand, it may be that the pipes are the same sizes.

I own 4 deep blue SM120, and I'm sure that cousins did a mistake. The last one had replacement dial and hands fitted by an official Omega service center who ordered parts from Omega (that was about half price compared to Cousins, watchco,..). Check the picture, hands are silver.

Of course they don't fit and reference is different. Just saying that that 2 models have black hands..

Hi Chris - I have verified on the Omega Extranet that the current hands for ref. 166.073 are indeed black, not silver. Also, the minute hands are both 13 mm for the SM300 and 166.073, but the hour hands are different - SM300 is 12.75 mm, and the others are 12, so slightly shorter as you noted.

    Cheers, Al

Edit - looking at another page they show both black and silver versions are available...both having the same dimensions with the shorter hour hand.

A quick "omega deep blue" google says silver hands.

Service hands and dial directly provided by Omega in Switzerland last december:

Yes that's certainly possible. All I'm saying is that the Omega Extranet shows both black and silver listed with that same replacement dial, and the hour hand is shorter on both...

Thanks Al, my hands are certainly fine. I was not aware that they came in black and silver. I think the important thing is that the hour hand is that bit smaller as you confirmed. If not, it would look strange with the smaller pcd of the markers. Cousins seem to have done the job.

@uwsearch you have some nice watches there. I agree with you about the prices charged by the suppliers but I don't have the luxury of getting Omega service centre prices if I'm doing the work myself. If they did fit the longer hour hand (which I doubt), let them know.

    Best regards, Chris
