Hi, does anyone know how many of these were manufactured, I have a black faced 751 but I'm reluctant to wear it because I don't know how easy it would be to replace if I lost it
751 24 jewel rated SM Chronometers are quite scarce but not rare. That said, I haven't seen too many in black . If that is the original condition of the dial and not messed with, it add up to quite a valuable watch. I doubt anyone can tell you how many were made..unless it were a specifically limited edition , like the, ahem, Speedmaster 125. Replacing it like for like would require time and patience..but not wearing it because you think you might lose it is kind of a shame. There are all sort of safer/more secure bands you can buy to cover most eventualities...
An original black dial for this reference would have silver gilt printing not white paint. As with all things Omega, never say never, however I've never seen an original black dial on this reference, I think they were all silver.
I've not taken a picture of mine, that photo is off the net and it looks better presented than mine, my photographic skills aren't very good
But is this a 168.023? I have one but is this the same model? I see lume but no t's on yours... I always thought these should have sparkle dials like this:
It looks like a redial to me. Uncommon only in 18k gold but plentiful in both stainless steel and gold plated versions with one exception - the pink gold plated date only model is similarly uncommon. As the old timers in the forum know I have a soft spot for this model - both day date and date only versions.
"Gold/champagne date wheels are a dead giveaway, redial." so they belong on a gold plate or gold watch, but mine is stainless
