Long time no post but have been asked if I can shed any light on this watch. It's owned by a friend of my Mother in Law and belonged to her late husband. He's been gone 10 years and she's done nothing about his possessions.

She has his watch which a kindly soul offered her £160 for. I suggested that might not be the best offer she'd ever had and could I have a look.

So here it is. The serial number is 516, it runs but that's about all I can tell you. The owner is by no means destitute and I'm not sure whether she even wants to sell it, but it would be helpful to know if it is sought after or not.

I am very definitely not an expert, far from it, but I think it's a 165.014. The crown doesn't have an Omega logo and it looks pretty tired to me, but as I say, I'm no expert.

    Any thoughts on it please?

Where do you see a serial number 516?
The serial should be much larger and is on the movement. Can we see movement pics?

Please don't let the "kindly soul" rip her off :)

I really have no idea, presumably I'd need the case back off to establish the reference?

I'm somewhat out of my depth here!

The 516 is the number of the endlinks. The reference number is on the inside of the caseback, and the serial is on the movement.

    Worth much more than £160.

What does the 516 mean then in respect to the endlinks? It did seem a small number to be a serial. I guess the next step is to have the case back opened and see what's revealed.

Indeed not, vintage Omega and £160 wouldn't often appear in the same sentence I wouldn't have thought

516 is the number for that particular style/size of end link.

If that was a dealer or jewellers offering so generously to buy it from a widow, name and shame the vultures here.

Likewise if it was a collector.

It is not dis-similar to my 165.014. The hands look a bit odd though. Should clean up ok. I think they are out by a factor of IMG_2971.jpg 10-15 on the offer

10-15? The bracelet alone is worth around 1100€. Nice find, I hope she and you will find a good collector for that watch!

Apparently it was a friendly local antique type person.

Ok, I've had the back taken off and it seems to be a 2913-3 with 26/10/59 written on the caseback. I've attached a few more photos.

Further comments or advice welcomed, as yet I haven't gone back to the owner.

hands look good in these photos. Buy it and be prepared to wait ages for Aldo to make you a bezel insert

I'm not interested in buying it myself, but I'd rather someone who appreciates it buys it for a fair price. I have feeling the owner may use the money to buy a pair of earrings which is much better than the watch sitting in a drawer until she dies and then the kids either chuck it out or get conned by the aforementioned "friendly antique dealer".
