I recently Inherited this watch from my grandfather. Since I don’t know that much about watches in general I hopes that someone here can tell me a little bit more about my watch.

When I got the watch, I went to a respectable watchmaker and he cleaned and serviced the watch and fixed some issues with the date disc. It holds time very well, 562 movement by the way

I have a couple of questions: is the dial “rare”? I haven’t seen a lot of Seamasters with Arabic numerals. What year is it made? I won’t sell the watch, but it would be fun to know if it is worth anything also.

    Thanks in advance

Inside the case ther serial number will be inscribed on the movement. Just do a google search and you should be able to figure out the year

No, the dial is not at all rare, Arabic numerals are actually fairly common on Seamasters.

162.009 is a Geneve or vanilla automatic and not a waterproof case.
So this is a franken watch.

Are you sure? I have the original box and receipt. He also left me a steel version of a Seamaster with same case back marked 162.009SP

There are other examples out there with Seamaster dials. What is odd though is that there doesn’t seem to be any obvious waterproofing which is usually a prerequisite for labelling as Seamaster. Omega did brand some case numbers multiple ways, so finding one example as a Geneve doesn’t mean it is wrong if found branded Seamaster.

    Another:

    https://www.chrono24.co.uk/omega/seamaster-date--id10097106.htm

Having said that, 162.xxx literally means men’s, Automatic non water resistant calendar, so this would be woefully poor as a swimming watch! It doesn’t add up. There is a chance both the OP watch and the one on C24 are redials, in fact that is the most likely conclusion IMO.

    Omega vintage database entry:

    https://www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/watch-omega-geneve-omega-bb-162-0009

The fact it is listed as a Geneve here isn’t definitive since the OVD isn’t remotely comprehensive.

ps a Seamaster dial with Arab numerals isn’t all that rare, I have a couple.

Seamaster = waterproof case is the fact.
    162.009 = non-waterproof case is the fact.
    End of story.

Yeah, I can post a picture of the box with the receipt when I’m home. It is partly handwritten in Swedish. It looks kinda old but it seems genuine. Again, I don’t know anything about watches that’s why I posted here.
