Hi there, So classic story, a friend today that knows I like watches sends me some pictures today of an interesting watch that their friend inherited from "their uncle" and has been wearing daily [emoji33] Apparently they also have box and papers for this watch, but I will believe it when I see it. I only have two pictures and the watch is not in my possession, so I can't take any caseback pictures or movement pics or pics of the paperwork. These are the two pictures I do have So a few things I noticed: 1)Appears to be a step dial 2)racing dial variant with hands replaced but chrono original? 3) subdial hand replaced? 4)bracelet replaced There won't be any additional pictures for at least a week as my friend is away now. But I was too excited not to post Would love to know anyone's thoughts and ideas Many thanks in advance
Very nice! This is the version shown in the large pic on page 459 of Moonwatch Only - where it's noted that the sub-dials are smaller, but main distinguishing features are, step dial, PROFESSIONAL script, and white, 'slim,' painted logo. Hour, minute, sub-seconds should be orange/red.
https://www.fratellowatches.com/speedmaster-105-012-66-racing/ The link above provides for a worthy cross-examination. Looks the same.
If it is, in fact a 105.012, however, pushers have been replaced, along with the hour/minute hands and the seconds hand as well. Still, re-painting the hands and finding correct stubby pushers shouldn't be too difficult. DIBS?!
A 145.022 69 wouldn't have the smaller subdials though. I can't imagine what other dial it could be with that spacing that someone added the red paint AND the checkerboard/minute track to.
Top tier find! As far as daily wearers go that's some other level stuff. My money would be on it being a 145.012, but it will be interesting to see for sure. Might be useful for your pal to know one of the more recent 321 racing dial auctions reached £38k, a couple of issues but red hands present. (Not that the white hands are that much of big deal on a watch where about 90% of the value lies in the dial) http://www.mctears.co.uk/auctions/l...4ba3-8eb3-fd4f767185d1&page=1&referrer=browse One of the most useful racing dial threads is https://omegaforums.net/threads/speedmaster-145012-67-racing-dial.24756/
Thank you, I've been passing on the info I have, as well as info from MWO. Yes I recall following that one in the auction. I'm looking forward to seeing the other pictures and of course inside the caseback But nothing is happening for at least a week, which makes the waiting all the more difficult I suspect it is a 145.012
