I saw this vintage Omega on eBay today and I was immediately drawn to it. The description says it has a "custom made case". Any idea what that might mean?? Are there any other details in the description or pictures that you find interesting? I'd appreciate any comments you might have.

I am a modern Omega fan and have never purchased a vintage watch. But this could be my long sought after tuxedo watch - perfect size and look.

Custom case means its a non Omega case - it also has a refinished dial meaning it was repainted. I wouldnt pay 50 for that watch. Find a correct one. Avoid listing with the words "custom" or "refinished" as it means it has lost its value to a collector

Good that you're asking before you make the purchase - good move!

How can I find the reference number for an all original version of this watch. Is it a 2620 with a black dial??

The watch advertised on eBay in the link at the top of this thread. I note it is now sold.

It’s not an Omega case... there is no Omega reference number for it. There are over a hundred Omega watches from this period that look similar with many having multiple dial variations. It’s not as easy as what you are asking.

As a solid gold case, it was surely worth more than $50 just in melt value alone. Since the case is not from Omega it doesn't have any colletor's value, but as long as the buyer didn't have any illusions about it being Omega, if they like the looks, great. But it's not worth $1200 or whatever the seller was asking.
