Vintage Omega Tank cal. T17

I want to spend about 3k AUD on a vintage watch and came across this. I’ve read about the calibre which seems to be pretty special. So I live in Australia and my search has brought me to this. This particular online seller is based in Poland. So landing in Australia I’m looking at 3.5k AUD with duties and taxes. It’s allot of money for me to spend on my first vintage piece so I’m being super cautious hence why I’m posting here.

I’ve asked if the watch has been restored in any way. Just awaiting reply. They do have other vintage omegas some with patina on the dials. I’ve googled the seller and they have some great reviews. However I still am being super cautious as I need to find out more about the watch they are selling and if this is a fair asking price end has anyone heard or had dealings with the seller? I saw someone in Australia had purchased a vintage Omega tank recently and was extremely satisfied.

Here is the link to the watch which I found on Etsy. Can anyone offer me some more input or advice on the particular seller and the watch itself. Was even thinking to buy something cheaper first before dipping my toes in further.

Thanks in advance

Firstly welcome to OF - good idea to ask here before you buy. Most noobs do it the other way... buy first and ask afterwards after they had paid their noob tax. 😀
Secondly if you ask here please post the photos directly and not links - photos stay while links vanish after some time...
Thirdly about the watch:
It is overpriced.
IMHO the dial has been reprinted
So many photos of the watch and none of the movement is a reason to be cautious.
Why? If a dial looks so pristine without any signs of age and the movement does not look the same is an indication that the dial was redone.
So the seller avoids to show the movement...
I would ask for high resolution clear photos of the movement.
As the seller handles the watch and movement with gloves we can assume he is a watchmaker or at least a professional seller.
So he must be capable to show the movement in good photos - insist to have some sent!
TBH I think you could do better for this kind of money - just my 2 cents...

Thank you for your input I really appreciate it! I was thinking the dial looks too pristine. Yes I was going to ask to have some pictures of the movement sent. I found it a bit strange that there was a picture of the dial out of it’s case and no picture of the movement itself. As mentioned there are other omega tanks the seller has going for cheaper with pictures of the movements and with patina on the dials. I was just taken by the look of this particular tank with the black dial and gold hands. It’s all a learning process and a journey after all!

And I’ll remember to post pictures next time.

Thanks again

As per the advice from @mac_omega, the watch is over priced.
I too suspect that the dial has been re-finished.
The website has lots of nice photos including a lot of (unnecessary) wrist shots, the movement being held in jewellers gloves (oo la la!) but none of the actual movement.
Actual description is flowery, but no mention of the dial at all.
The pictures and words are aimed at tempting the uneducated buyer.

Move on.

As mentioned by many. Check out EBay. Number of case styles and dials. Some refinished dials, but if that doesn’t bother you. More to choose from

Thanks for your input. Would that mean any of the other watches they have are also in the same vain and I shouldn’t waste my time or money with this seller?

That would be a wise decision.

Hi Jethro
I have seen their Instagram channel, and I think they are legit. I have the same model. I checked to be under the reference CK994, and they have mentioned it as 'Omega 3532' which i am not sure. Because the one i got has 4 screws, two on each side of the middle case which hold the outer case. The dial seems to be repainted. Please check everything before you pay. Ask for the pictures of the movement. My watch is exactly like this, with a similar dial. The price range is similar to this on other sites as well for other vintage tanks.
