Hello wonderful people of the OF.

I'm currently on holiday in Sydney and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on vintage watch (specifically Omega) retailers in the city (the last thread on this topic was posted 7 years ago, where the poster was told that the closest viable option was New Zealand!)

I've checked out a couple of places in 'The Strand' arcade, one specifically called 'Vintage Watch Co' which had exactly zero vintage watches on offer.

Would love some advice if anyone would be kind enough to take the time. Thanks in advance. Matt

Cant particularly help you ( I am in NZ) but looking at vintage watches in Sydney on Face Book in the past ( and bought a few off FB in Sydney) their are a couple of watch makers who regularly post Vintage ( including Omega) on FB for sale.

Give Nicholas (Nick) Hacko a call for an appointment
https://clockmaker.com.au/omega.html
Truly vintage pickings look a bit slim on the website but he might have more tucked away.

I'm sure if you can get him chatting he'll have some further leads.
He had/(has ?) a reputation for being a bit short with people so take it gently, while letting him know you're serious 😉

I thought VWCo in Sydney had a Big Blue, at least, but looking on the website that is now in the Brisbane store.

Vintage watchco typically have more but after Christmas they’ll be cleaned out a lot of the vintage stuff. They have a brisbane store too which tends to have the better stock.

What in particular are you after, Speedys, Constellations, entry level stuff or just a bit of anything?

A mate of mine is subscribed to his email newsletter, he's apparently gone on some interesting customer service related tirades in the past year so I'd say this is still the case. If OP is serious, he certainly seems to be a genuine seller, but he might get spicy if he thinks you're just killing time.

He is/was a member on here and he regularly showed everyone just how short his fuse is…

He's helped me out on a couple of occasions, but you're right about his temperament.
Be civil, speak the truth and don't try a low ball and you'll be fine.

My Dad (Irish stock) was often noted to "not suffer fools" by my Mum (English stock).
I suspect Nick is of the same disposition, although he's not Irish 😉.

I’m sure he can be quite helpful, but speaking to that, this thread did come to mind heh 😜

But anyways, I don’t want to hijack the thread. OP, I hope you enjoy your holiday and do share pics!

Thanks for the tip about Nick and Master Watch Making @Emeister and yes, the Big Blue VWC had was in Brisbane and it was really the only thing I was genuinely interested in but I needed to see it in the flesh as the bezel and lower left of the dial looked a bit iffy in the pictures on their site...

@dsio what am I after? I'm on the look out for a nice 176.005 or a 176.002 with blue accents. I've also been on a long search for a 145.008 or 145.007 with a sharp unpolished case... this seems to be easier said than done.

Actually a blue dialed Seamaster could also satiate my needs like the 145.029 on Nick's site but all your stories have given me the heebie jeebies to the point where I definitely won't be contacting him.

Thanks again for all your tips, this amazing city put on a 'bonza' day today after a few days of quite heavy rain. Paddington was definitely a highlight followed closely by the Bondi - Coogee walkway... can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!
