I am no expert so therefore I am unable to determine what is or is not proper. Anyone care to chime in? I'm not bidding. This just caught my attention.
I have followed this also and it is the 3rd time I have seen this same watch go up for auction, close with a winning bidder, then get resisted. Something smells fishy.
From Merriam Webster. Origin of SHILL perhaps short for shillaber, of unknown origin First Known Use: circa 1916
Hhhhmmmmm interesting. I would have bet my left nut it was a Yiddish term. From the wikipedia 'bible': The word originally denoted a carnival worker who pretended to be a member of the audience in an attempt to elicit interest in an attraction.'
another possible explanation: One possible explanation for the origin of the word is the English name "Shillibeer". George Shillibeer was an entrepreneur who developed the first commercial bus service in the UK. Shillibeer was believed to employ confederates who could help him solicit more customers for his bus line.
