    Hi Everybody!

I am new to the forum (and to Omega ownership) and I have some fairly basic questions, that I could not get answered by the search tool.

Recently, I decided to purchase an Omega at (real) auction and picked up a 1960s Geneve Chronostop, manual wind (no paperwork, non-original strap).

The watch runs fine (daily winding), but I will feel better if I could get the case cleaned and polished and the watch serviced.

I don't care about going to Omega to get the work done as I don't believe the (probable) cost is justified against the value of the watch. So my question is:

    1. Can anybody here recommend an independent specialist for the service and cleaning of Vintage Omega watches?

If you're in London then I would use Swiss Time Services. They are the approved service centre for Omega & handle loads of vintage watches: http://www.swisstimeservices.co.uk/ Apparently, they have 15,000 Omega's going through them in a year.

They are in Southend & it is worth going there if you can. They will agree exactly what to do (and not do) with you & tell you how the watch was originally supposed to be. If you can't get there, you can do it all by post & email/phone. Personally, I prefer going there. They did a great job on my 1970's Seamaster Chrono at a very reasonable price.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I have spoken with the service manager there, very nice chap. But I was quoted £375 for servicing. Whilst I have every confidence that the service would be excellent, the value of the watch (and my intention to sell it), means that such a high price is not justifiable.

So, I am still looking for an independent specialist, who does not charge several hundred pounds, who can service, clean and polish vintage Omega's and is UK based. Can anybody recommend such a person?
