I've read everything I can find about vintage Omega Seamasters with red seconds hands on this forum and searching via the Google. I have been unable to locate any definitive information about why or which Seamasters have a red seconds hand.

The following picture was originally posted by Steve (cicindela) on July 11, 2013. He listed it as a N.O.S. 1950's Bumper Automatic.

Can any of you provide any clarification on this?

I don't think you can easily sort this out. It is found on some models, but other times is not model bound but merely a choice Omega made with a dial combination. For example this watch is a 2846 , but many other 2846's have different dials and no red seconds hands.
Sometimes red seconds are added later during service or refurbishment or at a customer request.

    Steve,

Would it be "taboo" to put a red seconds hand on a 1953 Seamaster that did not original come with one?

Mine is not in that great shape (looks like Titanic underwater) but has the red seconds hand.
