In February my late fathers Omega Seamaster was sent off to Switzerland for an estimate on works to be done to get it back in full working order. Today I received a phone call informing me that the said works would cost £1670. I had been offered £400 to £500 by a store in Edinburgh in part ex for a new model, which did appeal to me. However, I bought this watch for my Dad for Christmas in 1975 and it has great sentimental value. I'm not sure what is the best course of action to take. The Aqua Terra takes my fancy and not having the repair work done and a part ex option would mean I'm in pocket by a healthy amount. My heart strings are being tugged though and at the moment I'm unsure of what call to make. Any advice would be appreciated.!!

    Keep your Dad's watch!--that's irreplaceable.

Simply don't have Omega service it in an authorized center. There are plenty of independent watchmakers who can do a wonderful job (and won't require you to replace any of the original parts!) for far less money.

Do a quick search of the forums or ask around and you'll get many recs for a new watchmaker.

Absolutely no question. Service the watch and keep it.
