I am offered this Omega Ploprof 600m and I am not too familiar with the nuances of this model. Would appreciate if anyone from OF can tell me if it is worth buying the watch for $6k? The owner states that everything is original including the mesh bracelet. Many thanks.

For me personally the dial doesn't look attractive so I would pass.

Need more photos to say. Looks original from what I can see. The MKI dials nearly always bubble like that so is acceptable as long as you like the look of it. I would say 6K is a bit strong though.

Looks original but well used and has been polished, (edges look rounded), rare Mk1 dial.
It all looks similarly worn including the red button, leads me to believe all parts might have been born together, which is unusual for a Mk1.

I don't think I'd personally pay $6k for it but i do like it.

Man...if that is $6k, would love to know what mine is worth.

That dial and case look too tired to me for that money. There are very attractive original examples out there at much better prices from what I have seen.

Hands, dial, bezel all look original for this reference. The button might be replaced (there's often a sort of white residue on old ones) but not sure. I'd love it if this would fetch $6K (which means it's likely a little high).

I would pass. I love all ploprofs more-or-less, but you can definitely do better. Even if you could get the $6k down, once you do, you will continually see better examples and it will drive you crazy. It would me anyway......

Is yours an MK1? Why is the dial different?

It is a later version...was just saying that nice ones are out there. The crusty, bottom of the sea look is not what I pay a premium for.

I was focused more on the 600M vs yours that reads 600ft/2000m. Does that make a difference in the watch being a MK1?

No it's the same watch. There were a number of different, more-or-less consecutive dials. Type 1 tends to the darkest, rarest, oldest and 'bubbliest'. Personally I love it, but it's not to everyone's taste. Check this out: http://www.ploprof.com/PloProfDials.html

Also, since I use any excuse to post a pic of my pride and joy:

    Thanks for explaining.

And if I had a Ploprof, I would use any excuse too!

A sharp case, better patina, and overall quality of the piece make the bubbly old dial badass!

Also consider that there is a very highly likelihood this will need service, and that once it is opened other issues will be found. I think most of us that have owned one have found this to be true.

They are wonderful watches but have not caught the speedy fever, so I think you might be able to find some more favorable options at that asking price.

I would sell mine tomorrow if I could get $6k.

Tom you have been off the grid... Do you have OF setup to notify you only when Ploprof topics come up?

Many thanks for the link. That was very helpful. Does it follow that the mk1 is the most desirable?

Not really off the grid, but easily distracted. Have been on a Leica Bender for the last few (several) months. Slowly making my way back to my watch home! Still love the Ploprof best!

    Btw......thanks for noticing my absence!
