    Hi Omega forum member,

I am a newbie in vintage omega.
I got 145022 ST 71 that no sign of omega on center of plexi .Is it original plexi?
    What do you think?

    Thanks,

The short answer is no, it's not original.

That would be non-original. All Speedmaster crystals have the Omega logo in the center, except for recent research showing that a small number of 80's and 90's models may have had no logo. But those would be both rare and difficult to prove.

In any case, your 71 has a replacement crystal, which is neither uncommon nor particularly horrid. These crystals were meant to be replaced, so that's what people did. IMO, it would be nice to put an Omega crystal on it. It will still be identifiable as a new crystal from the specific shape of the logo at the center, but it would be an authentic Omega and somewhat appropriate.

Generally speaking the 345.0809 the 345.0808 and the 376.0822 do not have the Omega logo in the central point of the crystal these are 80’s Watches which is when your crystal most likely was replaced
After or at that time any crystal without the central logo is an aftermarket non omega replacement unless you have by chance got an accidental 345.0809 or a 345.0808 crystal .....can’t be a 376.0822 as there would be a minute track attached
If it is a mistaken Omega non logo crystal a collector may pay a bit more to refit it to an 80’s rare model to increase its authenticity...

Are you sure you are looking hard enough? The logo can be hard to see, especially on a badly scratched crystal.

With the exception of the 3760822, these all use the exact same crystal as the 145022, so this theory is suspect at best...

Regarding the crystal, I also have a question: between an original skinny logo crystal and a later replacement cryatal, the later has more dome and feel a bit less sturdy against the vintage one? Is it how they made them or the vintage one just got polished too much?

Based on the differences I have seen between newer and vintage, I really doubt that the crystals have been polished that much. There wouldn't be much left of them if that much dome had been removed...

So it simply means they have different build? Persionally I like the dome of the newer :)
