I happen to find this vintage Omega military watch from my friend who sold me his Rolex 1655 Explorer. He showed it to me together with a 1st gen Breitling Navitimer 806 after we concluded the sale of the 1655. The watch is in very good condition and the movement looks very clean. It has the typical British military narkings on the dial, back case and inside the back case. I would appreciate if anyone could enligthen me about the watch. Thanks.
There will be many many people more knowledgeable about this watch than me, and I trust they will weigh in. If i am not mistaken this is an example of a 'WWW' watch. These were commissioned by the MoD during the Second World War from 12 manufactures, Buren, Cyma, Eterna, Grana, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Lemania, Longines, IWC, Omega, Record, Timor, and Vertex. I believe that Omega made about 20k, but obviously many were lost and/or destroyed during the war. The WWW on the back stands for wrist watch waterproof, many people try and collect all 12 makes, I also know of many who have tried and given up on this endeavour. There was a really good website which use to specialise in these watches; I believe the URL was http://www.time514.com/BritishX.htm, but it seems to be down now. I don't know enough to comment on the dial/lume authenticity of this one, but I know many were messed around with.
The dial and the markings at the back looks correct. The sub-second hand and crown has been replaced, all the lume on the dial and hands has been redone. It should have 30T2 movement inside.
I don't know if we're permitted to post other forums, but I will anyways. There's a site called MWR which is Military Watch Resource. Some of the best info on military watches in that forum: http://www.mwrforum.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?2-Main-Forum&s=7f41579faa85bea5c8d95563cc325266
movement number seems high to me. should be around 1010**** on the upper end...... but.... war times..... an excerpt will clarify, if delivered to the UK. kind regards. achim
