Vintage omega, is it worth it?

Hello all,
I am thinking of buying a vintage watch for a while now, I have come across 2 Omega watches which I really like.

Below are two watches with pictures and descriptions from the seller.

1. Omega Watch 1 pic (1,2,3)
Omega 18k gold watch.
Dial diameter 36mm.
Analog tension.
Caliberb 266.
Dial with a lower second.
Clock in perfect condition.
Price: 1200 Euro
(from looking at it with my inexperienced eye it looks like the watch hands may not be original?)

2.Omega Watch Geneve 2 pic (1,2,3)
Omega 18k gold watch.
Dial diameter 37mm. Signature crown.
Dial with gold indexes with a second second.
Perfect condition.
Price: 1200 Euro

I have tried to ask the seller for pictures of the movement of both watches, but he is an older gentlemen who has not got a new mobile phone but insists we can go to a watchmaker to check the watch before I buy.

I have agreed to meet the seller and possibly buy the watch in a couple of days, I would appreciate if you could let me know if these watches look dodgy or if they seem like good watches to buy for the price.

Thank you!

thanks for the reply @DaveK ,I appreciate it. What do you think about the Geneve? the picture is a lot more clear, also do you think it's worth the buy?

I am going to see the watches in person this weekend, I will post more detailed pictures.

It will be my first time buying a vintage, any more feedback will be much appreciated.

Those pictures sure don’t make it easy. From what I can see or rather guess:

1: Isn’t the Omega writing completely wonky? All the letters seem to have different sizes.

2: I haven’t seen that G of Genève before. Also, the line through the Omega logo seems to be not central and on my 2748, it crosses the applied Omega writing at a different point. That I haven’t seen this before doesn’t mean it’s incorrect, of course, but if I have to come to a verdict judging from those pictures I’d say they’re both redials. The case of the Genève seems to have been heavily polished, too.

The crosshairs need to be seen from 100% straight on, even a slightly off centre photo will make them look like they are printed wrong

@DominikZ i do not know those watch references well enough to weigh in further, someone else will come along with some guidance. Good luck with your purchase!

The photos aren't good enough for me to give any sort of opinion.

I'd like to emphasize that there are many users here more qualified to give a verdict than me, but from what I see I still find the font of the "Genève" weird (and some of the indices arent positioned correctly, see 7 o clock for example) and looking at the small second of the other one, the markers there are unevenly positioned. Compare their distance to the outer ring for the top and the bottom one.

I see you have a good eye @MtV, I would not have spotted that. Even if the watch has been repainted, would you say the price is reasonable (1150 Euro per watch)? I will have the pictures of the movement shortly.

IMO these both are redials, this fact has huge influence on the final price - in this case it should be much lower because it's hard to get an authentic good loocking dials nowadays. Even if the authenticity desn't matter to you, ask the price reduction. 18k gold cases are pretty soft and they catch scratches or dings faster then stainless steel ones, this cases look polished.

If they are indeed both redials, which I believe until someone from the OF establishment says otherwise, the price is far from reasonable. I'd pass, I'm afraid.

Thanks a lot for your help, I will indeed let this one go 😀 I will be on the lookout for other Omega timepieces and probably will comment on the forum for any help! Thanks again!
