Hi there, I'm buying this watch for my boyfriends birthday and I want to make sure is authentic and it worth what I'm paying. Also it has a few stains and I was wondering if there is any way to get this restore and where.

    Thanking you in advance.

EDIT : Disregard my stupid comment and see below!

Hello there. Does the watch work?
The wheel that is just below the 17 jewels doesn't seem to be doing anything. Just think about it, when it turns what else will it turn and how will it turn. It shouldn't be there!
Just that would make me run away fast. As for answering if the dial is authentic or not, I'll leave that to the experts.

The gift of this watch is a nice gesture. Has it been recently serviced? I personally like the patina on the dial and don't think it will clean up.

@Jonatan please do some research on movements before commenting : http://www.ranfft.de/cgi-bin/bidfun-db.cgi?10&ranfft&&2uswk&Omega_283

Obviously I'm no engineer but what turns the wheel?

Maybe that wheel is to turn the gizmo that makes the second hand go around the dial?

I am not familiar with the 283 but I think it passes through the wheel train bridge, is driven by the wheel train beneath, and is coupled to the sweep second pinion.

Thanks for answering. Yes, the watch it's in working condition, So you are recommending not to buy it? Why? Do you think is a frankenstein watch?
    Let me know

    Thanks again

Aside from my sarcastic comment, I think the watch has issues.

The dial is obviously corroded (not "patina") and I have no idea what has been done to the lugs. There is also a missing tension ring which is evident from the big gap in the case adjacent to the winder.

    I wouldn't touch it.

My concern is that the dial looks too small for the watch. I can see the movement around the edge of the dial from the front.

Without knowing the reference from the caseback it's impossible to comment further.

To me it's just a clunker.

Edit, just noticed the caseback pick, my apologies.

    My judgement still stands.

It looks like the lugs have been bent to accept a wider strap. I would look for a better example, but again this is a nice gesture to gift a watch and research what you are buying.

Ok I apologize for the hijack but I would love to learn a little more, and honestly I still don't understand. Sorry if I'm not using the proper terms either. To me, looking at the mechanism from this side (and I understand that everything is going on underneath) I would assume that there is no use to have a wheel with teeth. One could have placed smooth wheel and this one is there for either simplicity of having that one on hand or decoration? In the sense that the teeth on the wheel on this side, are not interlocking into anything else.

    Is this correct?

This is the information Ive got from the seller is this one:

    17 Jewels Caliber 283 #12073254
Acier Inoxydable on inside back 10328650
    Sloping lugs
    Working Condition

I'm not sure what is sloping lugs, I don't know anything about watches.

Do you guys think £145 for this watch is a good price?

    Thanks again

Bent or is one just longer than the other?
