Vintage Omega Genève: which version?

This mechanical watch belonged to my grandfather. Afaik - as told by my father - it was bought in the 40's or even before in Portugal since he remembers a picture of my young grandfather wearing it. He also doesn't know exactly because he died when my father was 11. Anyhow there's always a chance it was bought in Angola in the 50's.

I tried the Omega website and the 1st version that appears is from 1954. I also checked others from more recent years and couldn't find a match. Maybe some parts got replaced? This glass, for instance, is some cheap glass changed some years ago because the other one was broken.

Couldn't agree more, the private sales here are the not only the best way to find an amazing watch, but digging through years of sales is the years of sales is the best way to get a feel for the market. Things have shifted and omega's are more expensive then they were 3 years ago but you get a good sense of what a real piece of history should look like, and what it's worth.
