Vintage Omega Geneve Help

Hello people and watches enthusiasts.

The story behind this Omega Geneve is that it was owned by my grandfather who passed away in 2000.

In the 60s and the 70s, he was a General Director in one of the biggest Banks in Macedonia (now known as North Macedonia) and the company has given him this watch as a present.

On the case back there is a custom engraving:
KIB fil (the Bank) GEVGELIJA (the town) 1971 G (the year was given, G-year), which I don’t think is important for anything.

I don’t have any information on how the watch was maintained by my grandfather. I only remember it had different metal/golden straps at the time.

I literally got the watch yesterday from my father who told me that he had only replaced the crown as according to him it was worn out and also the crystal.

He has done this replacements to the local watch/repair shop which I doubt it was open professionally. You can clearly see the mark/dent where it was opened, or maybe it’s just an accidental dent. Also, ignore the straps there are not original.

The gold top on the lug under the crown is clearly worn off which I think is understandable for a 55 years old watch.

After winding it yesterday, nearly after 22 hours later it was right on the spot, just after that I noticed it went one minute back.

I’m not experienced in watches a lot but I recently started getting exited for a good watch and also own couple watches which are not crazy expensive.

I haven’t opened the case back yet but from what I could research online, it seems that it’s Geneve 1969 MD 135.0070 caliber 601.

So what would I like to help me with is:

1. Am I right for the model?

2. Can you please give me an advice about servicing and maintenance of the watch. Obviously need servicing I think after all these years.

Does it need to be done by official Omega shop etc. Also about the replaced crown, is it possible to find an original one to put it back.

I live in the UK so I have access to good shops I believe.

3. From what you can see on the pictures, does it counts that the watch is in good condition?

4. And finally, even though there is no way I’m selling this watch but I’m also curious what would be worth it today?

Thanks in advance and if I missed any important info or pictures, I can add in replies.

Welcome.

1. Am I right for the model?
Yes 135.070

2. Can you please give me an advice about servicing and maintenance of the watch. Obviously need servicing I think after all these years.
I’d use Mitka or WatchGuy in the UK

Does it need to be done by official Omega shop etc. Also about the replaced crown, is it possible to find an original one to put it back.
No but you could use STS if you prefer but they’ll be 2-3x the price of the two I mentioned above.

I live in the UK so I have access to good shops I believe.

3. From what you can see on the pictures, does it counts that the watch is in good condition?
Not really. The gold plate is worn as you say which impacts condition significantly. Case is average. Dial is fairly good.

4. And finally, even though there is no way I’m selling this watch but I’m also curious what would be worth it today?
The 135.070 is the entry level Omega from this period. Gold plate the least desirable case material. Condition of the case is also an issue.
I’d say £250 in this condition. Maybe £300 on a good day.

Thanks Dave for your answers on all off my questions.

Also, about the gold plate, is it 18k gold or there is no specification about that?

I’m not sure to be honest.
There are places that could re-plate it by taking the remaining plate off and back to base metal, prepping it and replating. If it were my grandfathers I’d seriously consider it. Replating and a service will cost more than the wqtxh is worth but as an heirloom I’d strongly consider it.

Thanks again Dave.

I will ask about that service and if not too expensive I’ll probably consider replating as well.

I’d contact the watchmakers above. I’m certain Mitka and WatchGuy don’t do replating but they may know someone who does and be able to facilitate it as part of a service.
I suspect STS don’t either and if none of them can help, you may need to find a working jeweller, who’s experienced with watxh cases to do it.

Yeah I will definitely do servicing and then I’ll go from there.

I have the exact same watch, but 565 movement ... and the back does not say "seamaster" (strange ?). the value IMHO should be around 300.€

I’ve had a couple of watches serviced by Mitka that have been replated by RePLATEit in the US. Mitka has coordinated this and I’ve been very happy with both results.

Chris.
