Vintage Omega Geneve 136.041 Buying Advice

Hey everyone, I am still searching for a vintage Geneve and found this listing which is cheaper than some of the others or around equal to the lowest listings I could find. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts before I purchase. It doesn’t come with box and papers - but it’s from the 60s so I didn’t really expect that. I’ve attached the listing.https://ebay.io/m/ODqnQ8

Thanks!

It looks legit at first glance. Some water damage obviously.

Do you think its fair priced? I feel like everyone says these should be lower but I can't find anything with equal quality at a lower price?

I don't know, it's not easy to find a legit vintage stainless Omega for under $500 these days, so I guess the price isn't crazy. But the condition gives me pause, especially the movement. If you end up putting another $400 into getting it in good shape, it won't be a bargain any more, especially since the dial isn't great.

Reference 136.0103. Manual wind center second with date.

I don't like the signs of moisture intrusion on the movement and dial. I'd be a pass at $420. Especially since the watch is in Israel and would result in additional tariffs (for me anyway).

Great points by everyone. I think I'll continue the search; I definitely don't want to spend anything additonal to restore. Thank you!

BTW, I suspect the hands aren't correct for that dial. H + M hands appear to be black onyx/painted only (which does match the aesthetic of the H markers). But since the H markers have lume plots, we would also expect the H + M hands to be lumed. Another reason to pass.

I very much like the automatic Geneves - particularly the 552 no date or the 565 date.

I like to think that the shape of the 166.041 Geneve wears bigger on the wrist

You don't think it's the wrong case shape and caliber for a 136.0103?
😉

Oh, you're right ... good eye! I didn't do that level of research on it. I just saw that it looked like a legit Geneve with an original dial. It looks like maybe there is a swapped caseback, or at least some sort of parts swapping.

Yep, it's a 136.041 with the wrong caseback. So the sellers description is bullshit.
Unusual for eBay.

Good catch, unusual or usual? I feel like it’s one of the less reliable ones

I have a 6.75 inch wrist. These wear nicely. Very simple case, no bezel. I'd have preferred the automatic but really liked the rivet bracelet on this one (and came serviced). Tons of dial options and very affordable daily vintage IMO.

The caseback on the one you pictured above is incorrect. The movement also looks rough as stated above. I wouldn't be a buyer, these are plentiful enough.

What site did you get that from or recommend?

I actually purchased this one here from a forum member. That's what I would recommend to you.

The eBay one you posted is a bit rough as well as the caseback issue.

The manual wind 041s with the 613 caliber are good solid reliable watches.

Apart from OF Private Watch Sales, I tend to look on eBay and Chrono24.
