hi I recently aqired and omega, was hoping some one might be able to give me a bit more info on. Dos any one reconise the model year so on. Cheers ross.
No idea about model. Is there a style number stamped inside the case back? Don't expect it to have a name. The movement implies to me that it is likely from the 1920s, or thereabouts.
10 million serial number says 1940's to me. However, that movement caliber was made for over 20 years, so the original versions were made in the 1920's. Just not this particular watch. Dial is an older redial and has not aged well at all. gatorcpa
Looks a lot like the one I've just sent out for service. I found the twin to mine on "Superior Watch" site. They called it a 26.5.3, which translated to 1940.
All original with unbroken needle hands. Be very careful how you get that restored. I'm sure someone here has a good place to do it. That's a great vintage piece that needs a very sympathetic restoration.
The caliber is one of the 26,5 series. Very nice caliber but hard to find parts! Considering the bad condition of the redialed dial, I would try to find a genuine one on a donor watch.
Aus is a small country with many many good watchmakers. Or Aus is a HUGE country with a few good watchmakers. Are you in Vienna, Linz, Gaimberg, Sydney, Perth, Melbourne or Alice Springs?
comparing with other pics of similarly identified watches, can someone clue me in about the case? Looks pretty different...
The first place that comes to mid is the Omega Bootique in Collins St, but that would be very expensive, you could get an estimate though and see if they can do the restoration. It would cost more than the watch is worth though. Ekselman watchmakers at 209 Elizabeth St have done work for me, no problems there. Harman at The Watch Lab Level 5 Suite 514 343 Little Collins may also be able to help but I haven't had any experience with them. Your best approach is to take the watch to all three and explain what you want and see how they respond and what they will charge.
Do's any one here know where I could get a donor face for this watch being a redial I'm not hugely fussy on restoring it but, if any one has a dail in good condition I would love to have a chat
