Vintage Omega Authentication and Valuation Help

Hello, I came across this old Omega Seamaster De Ville. From what I’ve seen online, it appears to be a 1959 model with the Omega 550 caliber and a 14K gold-plated finish. I’d like to know if any experts could confirm the model and, if possible, provide a value estimate—bearing in mind that it shows signs of wear and is quite damaged.

Most of us would not spend more than $400 on this, if anything, and that assumes the dial is in good shape. Gold plate tends to wear down easily, if the watch is worn much at all, so these tend to not be so valuable.

If you are happy with it, I would not worry about a collector's opinion, and just wear it and enjoy it. The crystal can be much improved by Polywatch and some elbow grease.

This appears to be gold-capped and stainless at first glance, which is much better than gold-plated. My feeling is that with a new crystal, it will clean up nicely. It seems to be all original including the crown, and not badly polished. The buckle appears to be legit, but worn. I think it might be worth something in the neighborhood of $600.

I believe such a watch in good condition should go for 700/800.€ (serviced ?) but this watch unfortunately is damaged around index 9.00 .. perhaps only the Xtal needs to be replaced .. perhaps the bezel is damaged .. ? thus reducing the appeal of the watch ... indeed 500 to 600.€ if the movement is OK

Thank you for your reply. Since the crystal is damaged, do you think it would be worth having it serviced and the crystal replaced to increase its value?

Ofcourse, if and when the watch is your, a new Xtal shall be in order ...and a service also (if the last one is more than 5 years ago or if the last one is not known ..).

You can spend a few hundred dollars on a Service and then you will have a watch that is worth maybe $600.

Servicing a watch you are selling is not worth cost especially with lower value watch like this

Nice watch. Seems like you can make out the omega logo (faintly) on one shot of the crystal, so appears to be original, which is kind of cool. Perhaps can be polished out and kept original if serviced.

If you’re just going to sell it. Check and see if gold filled or 14kt. Then check eBay’s completed auctions for value.

Sell as is and save the money

Often at this point the brass would show through at the lugs, even with gold capped cases. Maybe you are lucky and got some solid 14k in there. Also the bezel obviously. You should check that before selling. Service will increase value but will cost you more than the increase gain.
