Vintage Omega Antique discuss Find: Redial ID Help, Ref 2640

Found this Omega at an Antique Shop in Houston. Got it for $450. Then realized it is likely redialed… which made me sad. Then I took it to a watchmaker to get a new crystal and fix the detached 2 on the 12.

Is there any chance this watch isn’t redialed? Also, what model might this be?

Definitely a redial (Omega + minute markers are all rough), but I don't know what it is. Probably a bumper automatic?

I suspect you significantly overpaid at $450. Even with a good dial, that is probably a stretch.

Yea the text finishing on the dial is very rough, not a great quality redial, hopefully the movement is in better shape.

The loose 2 on the 12 is a good indication that it's been re-dialed.
Model would be an "Omega Gents Watch".

The inside surface of the caseback and the movement details will tell you all about the watch.

So, not quite the bargain that you might have hoped for but, once you get the fallen ‘12’ sorted, it’s very wearable and 99.9% of people who see it on your wrist will admire it as an Omega.

If you dive deeper into this forum you’ll learn that owners of watches in the mid C20 would regularly get their older watches 'freshened up' in the same way that a person might have cosmetic surgery.

So, you might as well enjoy the watch - when all’s said and done - it’s still an Omega.

No model name. Manual wind movement? What’s inside?

30mm or maybe 28SC

Looks like a ref 2639, or 2640.
2640 maybe. Not 2639 as they have subdial. But case similar I agree.

Not only a redial, but obvious relume, as well. Not worth much with that dial.
