Vintage Omega 2383-6 Inquiry

Hi OF Folks,
I havent posted here before (usually at WUS) but thought best to come to true Omega enthusiasts for some information about a watch I recently found. I dont know if this is a military watch, or a 'military style' watch or ... ??

Inside caseback says 2383-6. Its not running, although it ticked a bit when I gave it a gently shake. It has no crown. I have no idea of its history, if its ever been serviced, if hands are original, if the numerals were redone.

I am wondering if you have any information about this watch, its history, its movement, anything at all that you want to share about your knowledge of this piece.

I dont even know where I might want to get a vintage Omega serviced in US - any restoration advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for you interest and help. Here are a handful of pics of the watch and its movement.
Stay safe and healthy out there.

Where are the markings showing evidence of a military provenance?

I'm no expert, thats why I'm asking you guys to help me understand this watch. I havent identified any markings because I wouldnt know what a military marking might be (crows feet under 12?).
I am aware that this type of Omega (serial dates it at 1947 i think, railroad second track, clear numerals, aged tritium on hands all point to a field watch that was manufactured just after WWII) watch was common for military use.
But again, Im just nattering on, I would love to let me know what you think this is.

Don't worry about making mistakes 😀 it's all in the process of learning. I am no expert on these but the dial has some pretty significant radium burn as seen around the numbers. I did a little searching and one did sell here on the forums ages ago. Others who are far more experienced will chime in eventually.

One is still for sale here: FS - Omega 2383-4 1940s Grey Dial £550 | Omega Forums

It is actually my old watch; 2383s are pretty common and are great watches, but there are no military connection. To the best of my knowledge the watch in question has always been grey.

Any advice about who I might get it serviced by in the US? I am sure I can find a watchmaker randomly but if anybody has an opinion about a good watch maker to service an old one like this please let me know.

It would help us help you if you gave a GENERAL area where you live so we can recommend a local WM.

Also, you can state whether you mind shipping it to get it serviced.

The first thing to pop into my head when I saw that dial was "moonwatch"

This is a limited edition X-mas release from 1945.

It has the very sought after dial design "heavy snowfall".

hope this helps

Hello @stilren and welcome to the forum. Just about any independent watchmaker who is used to working on vintage pieces can assist you with your project. Try this search to find an AWCI (American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute) professional near you specializing in vintage watches. You may also try the NAWCC (National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors) search page. Don't be afraid to use a watchmaker that accepts watches by mail only. Search this forum for nationwide recommendations.

I'm in Hawaii (found the watch at the local Salvation Army) am would be fine with mailing the watch out, I'm pretty sure there arent many watchmakers on the Big Island.

Ahhh nice. I have family out on O'ahu. You could always ship it to California.
