Up for sale is this ultra-cool late 1960s Movado Datron HS360 Super Sub Sea diver’s chronograph with beautiful inverse Panda dial featuring the more uncommon Tachymeter bezel. Under the hood of this big steel beauty is the legendary Zenith/Movado “El Primero” 3019 PHC automatic movement. Additionally, this great Datron Sub Sea comes with its original Movado-signed Gay Freres “Ladder” bracelet with fliplock clasp and diver’s extension. It is stamped “I 69,” likely matching the year of manufacture of this great sports watch. Overall, this Sub Sea Chrono is in Excellent condition with a beautiful Near Mint dial and what seems to be an unpolished case, a fine example of one of the earliest “El Primero” automatic chronos produced in partnership by Zenith & Movado in the rare large “diver’s" configuration.

The asking price for this classic Movado Super Sub Sea chrono with hard to find GF bracelet is $3450 USD OBRO including fully insured shipping worldwide. Bank Wire always preferred but Paypal is also OK on this watch with split fees (+2% to the buyer). Other payment options upon application. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & BACK: Large 40mm (about 44mm including crown & pointed crown guards) x 45mm Stainless Steel cushion case with original alternating satin finished top and polished bevels and sides. The case doesn’t appear to have ever been polished displaying its factory circular top graining and showing normal wear for a nearly 50-year-old watch, with some scratches and nicks but no great dings or gouges — Excellent unpolished vintage condition overall. The outer part of the screw-in caseback shows fine scratches and small marks, Very Good+ to Excellent cosmetic condition with crisp SUPER SUB SEA 10ATM nomenclature. Inner back and the back of the case have no significant corrosion and the inner caseback has all the correct Movado brand & model hallmarks and nomenclature of the period.

BEZEL & INSERT: Uni-directional rotating steel bezel with fine knurling is easily in Excellent condition with just a couple of nicks to the edges. It rotates with a firm but not stiff ratcheting counterclockwise-only motion exactly as designed. The cool black & white Tachymeter acrylic insert, found much more infrequently than the standard dive-calibrated version and giving the watch an entirely different racier look, is in Very Good condition with the typical small split to the big lume triangle at “12” where the bakelite has shrunk over time.

DIAL & HANDS: All-original beautiful black inverse Panda dial with engine-turned matte silver contrasting sub dials and characteristic date window at "12" in Near Mint condition, with only the slightest hints of age. The original Tritium luminous bars are all perfectly intact and still mildly light reactive and they have acquired a lovely creamy patina. Original large silver Tritium-filled hands show just a bit more of their age but are Exclellent, as is the large sweep seconds and small subdial hands, and the lume in the hour and minute hands matches the dial beautifully.

MOVEMENT: Famed Zenith/Movado caliber 3019 PHC “El Primero” high-beat chronograph movement, one of the all-time greats and still a pioneering technological innovation to this day. Service history is unknown but it has always run great for me with strong power reserve, perfect operation & reset of all chronograph features, quickset date function and all time-setting and winding aspects working well. Guaranteed to be operating properly at the time of shipping

CROWN & PUSHERS: Pushers and original Movado-signed crown are in Excellent condition with only minor wear. The pusher caps are riding a bit high presently and could probably be adjusted further down on the friction fit portion of the pushers but it doesn’t effect their operation in any way. The large divers’-style crown crews down properly & tightly, winds the movement when unscrewed, sets the time in the first detent position and quicksets the date in the second position. The top pusher starts & stops the chrono and the bottom resets it; both are crisp and typically El Primero firm.

CRYSTAL: Original, I believe, thick low dome acrylic crystal signed in the center with the Movado symbol shows some wear in the form of crazing and minor scratches and there is some dust/particulate matter clinging to the underside. Still extremely clear with no chips so Very Good original vintage condition.

BRACELET & STRAP: This Movado comes on its original Gay Freres-manufactured “Ladder” bracelet with fliplock clasp and diver’s extension. It has the Movado logo on the clasp and is also date stamped “1 69.” It is in Excellent condition with not much stretch, some minor signs of wear & tear and is a nice hard-to-find accessory. This GF bracelet is not the longest and will only fit up to around a 7 1/4” wrist at full normal length (i.e., not utilizing the diver’s extension). I am also including a cool, slightly used BandRBands charcoal big holes leather rally strap for versatility, as pictured in one of the wrist shots, a perfect wristmate to this very sporty large chrono, IMO.

As a matter if policy I make absolutely NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or from.

This great collector’s Movado “El Primero” Panda chrono is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund (less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer). This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
