I picked it up last night at the Omega boutique in Los Angeles...where they were having a cocktail reception for "Spectre"...

Martinis and Omegas. Hard combination to beat!

Anyway, this Speedmaster Professional was purchased new by my father circa 1974-5. He wore it almost exclusively until 1991, when he gave it to me. I wore exclusively until 1997, when I bought another Speedmaster, an automatic with day, date and month complications. After that, I began to acquire more watches and the Moonwatch, though worn regularly, got some rest.

As much as I like the bracelet, with its tapered design, I wanted to try it on a strap. The boutique fixed me up. In fact, both strap and service were complimentary, as I recently bought the "First Omega in Space" and the new Seamaster 300m "Spectre" watch.

Service at the boutique is friendly, personal and first class. Very enjoyable place to visit (if costly).

The cocktail reception was fun. Nice to speak to some very knowledgeable collectors.

Here are some quick photo of my new old watch... This is its third service in all those years.

Hopefully you've still got the original hands. What happened to the lume, was it already scraped or did that happen in this service?

Good catch on the hands...checked its lume. Markedly brighter than the other markers (the lume is still there but dim). I will have to check with Omega about the original hands, they were not returned with the watch. Probably too late.

Good story and to see that, like me, you prefer the look of a Professional on a black strap. Hope you continue to enjoy.

Still looks great and it's awesome to have your Dad's old watch. I wish my Dad gave a crap about watches to hand me one down. All he gave me was bad genes and a height disadvantage ;)

Try and get the original hands off them though. It's a bit disappointing that they wouldn't send them to you to be honest.

Thanks for sharing that story. I almost felt transported to the boutique in LA. Sometimes its nice to get pampered. Funny. Our 3 grown up kids were back visiting us this week and all went off to see Spectre last night. Yes I like the 1171 bracelet on my 145022-78 as you say it's nicely tapered but I toyed with putting strap on it. Let us know how you go with the strap v original bracelet

Looks great on the strap! Is the bracelet a 1039? I know some folks choose not to wear it because it feels flimsy, or because the value freaks them out. But it is my favorite bracelet for vintage Speedmaster. Is your Speedy a -71 reference? I love the stepped dial!

Is the caseback comfortable on the wrist? The photos show what looks like a distinct edge and then sort of a textured finish. No problems after a day of wearing? Thanks.

It's extremely comfortable. No problems at all...well, one problem. Taking it off to wear another watch. Hard to do. It's that good.

When Omega does service, they always return the original parts. Someone at the store probably still has them. Ask them.
