    Hi all,

A collegue of mine passes by an old pawnbrokers shop in London everyday, and he takes pictures from all the new stock watches for me.
This Longines has an interesting two tone dial, with a cross across the dial.
Is it a propeller, or a Nazi wehrmacht cross maybe..? Or just a design element?

Caseback is etched "Securitas 1929-1949 Fritz *****" (can't read the surname, but it sounds like a German name)
Most likely a 20 years anniversary company gift.
Securitas is a global security firm, which only dates back to 1934, so I don't think it's that.
And that's pretty much all I know..

What do you think? Has anyone seen this dial before?

    Thanks for your help folks.

    Lev

Looks like the case has seen some polishing kn the past. Also unsure as to what the hours hand looks like (unless it's right on top of the seconds.)

As for dial...well, maybe the low quality pictures distort it a little bit; I'd say it has been worked on as those 6 and 9 markers look slightly out and the minute markers seem slightly misaligned between 11 o clock and 1 o clock.

    Thanks for your input;
Unfortunately we can only rely on these pictures for now. I'll try and get better quality ones later on. Maybe even a movement shot..

Difficult to tell if the case has been polished but it does not look severe. Hour hand looks to be the correct, alpha style. Though the first image is poor, the dial appears original IMO. I believe that the cross/propeller is just a design element.

Almost certainly genuine and correct. I am also not convinced that it has been over polished.

However nice and original though, I'm finding the £370 asking price a bit excessive..

Why would you ever speculate that a watch from around 1949 would have any relation to the Nazi regime?!? ::confused2::

Just going through the options, playing Sherlock..
Pros: German name etched in the back; few years after the war; watch doesn't necessarily have to be a '49 make, could've been old leftover stock. A brand new fancy watch in the post war poverty stricken Gemany? Why not use old stock..?
Cons: because nazi symbols were forbidden after the war; would anyone living in Germany hit their 20st work anny and not fight in the war, when even teenagers were forced to do so..?
    Just an avalanche of thoughts..

    1) The cross on the dial is not a nazi one.
    2) Securitas is a Swiss company established in Bern in 1907

Nothing to do with Germany and nazism.

Great, mystery solved! Thanks all for your help.
Would you agree though it's worth less than the £370 asking price?

I personally agree, I don't find the dial is in such good condition on the last picture you posted.
The cross pattern however is interesting, and I like the look of the crown.
One important question will be what caliber is inside.

It looks like a "radio room" dial

Hope not, they'd hear nothing in the minutes to the quarters, and completely miss any distress calls in the last two minutes of listening.

    ;)
