Early to mid 1950's. Almost certainly a LeCoultre cal. 480 inside. Dial looks like a nice two-tone original to me.

I would want to see the inside of the caseback at the very least. There should be a US-style "14K" hallmark and the words "Cased and timed in the USA by LeCoultre" somewhere inside. If not, then the case may not be original.

    Hope this helps,

Thanx. This helps a lot. The seller said it may take a couple of weeks for him to open up the watch. The case is 18k though and not 14K. I assume their cal 480 is an in-house movement?

Is that what the seller said?

Being a US market watch ('LeCoutre' vs. JLC), I think 18k would be quite unusual; raises suspicions of a re-cased beauty, but maybe not out of the question; better minds chime in!

Yes. And there is an 18k hallmark on the case back.

Some US market LeCoultre watches had 18K cases.

Just have to see what it says in the inside.

The nickname is knotted lugs on eBay and a lot of manufacturers who assembled watches in the US used that case including Bulova, Longines, Benrus, etc.

I mainly concentrate on vintage omegas, thus do not know much about JLC. Is there anything "special" about this watch other than a pretty face?

The value in the LeCoultre is in the nice original dial and the gold. The movement is their workhorse cal. 480 as expected. These are not exceptionally rare, nor do they have any great historical or collector value.

Now how about some pictures of that nice tear-drop lugs Jaeger-LeCoultre?

The 3rd movement pic you posted was of a gold tear-drop lug JLC... Not the LC we've been discussing..::confused2::

You are right. I did not notice. These were the pics that were emailed to me by the seller. I will ask him about that watch.
