    Hi OF,

I was looking to get into the world of Jenny Carriean / Philip Watch Caribe dive watches. To my understanding they're from the 70s and 80s and not that commonly found.

Particularly interested in the '1000m' squale style 42mm divers like below.

Does anyone here have experience with owning them and can give feedback? There are a few on c24 right now that are surprisingly expensive (to me) at prices closer to the 3000 USD mark.

    Thanks!

I recently sold one branded HASTE, which refers to H.A. Steele, a Mexican company. Mine had the elaborate decompression bezel.

I've not handled any vintage versions, but I recently serviced a new Jenny Caribbean - it was quite nice...

This is good to hear. I have looked at these and wondered.

I don't have any experience with them, but if you're on Instagram look up a gentleman by the hand of "peterfox570" he is a Jenny aficionado (read: has a massive collection of Caribbean divers) and could be a good resource for you.

If you are patient, they can be found at a bargain. There are many name variants with the 702 case so you need to get educated. I found this one at a flea market. Paid the price of a stainless, '60s automatic dive watch. Beat up. Distressed dial. Wrong bezel. BUT a cool daily watch that runs great.

Where is said flea market...;) (nothing good in my neck of the woods, too much snow and ice for diving)

Round Top, Texas. They have it twice a year. People come from all over the US to buy and sell. Never a problem with ice or snow. Tornados on the other hand have occurred.

I've never been to a watch flea market. Minnesota isn't known for those things. Might have to make a trip down to Texas.

This is the largest flea market in the US (possibly world). It's outdoor along a stretch of nearly deserted highway. MILES of crap. You have to dig for watches. Guns, knives, furniture, airplane parts, train parts, dolls, industrial equipment, you name it. Miles and miles of crap. It's up to you to dig to find the treasures. It happens twice a year. Spring and fall.

I got this Jenny in a multiple watch trade in 2015. It is a ref 702. I have not regretted it.

I have never thought of myself as a divers watch collector but some years ago I suddenly realized I probably am one...

And then there are all the ones not 1000m... I guess they just come to me. I am innocent!

^ lovely. That Certina is splendid. With regard to the 702 case, I love how short those lugs are, I'm sure they wear very comfortably and even a bit larger than their size suggests with the overhanging bezel.

Curious what’s inside the vintage models...ETA 2472 maybe?

For ref 702 (edit - at least for the early ones) - ETA 2452, 25j. It is said that the US versions had 17j because of import taxes.

It looks like I don't have any photos of the movement in the one I owned, unfortunately. IIRC it had a split-stem single-piece case construction, and I generally don't open those.

This is the smaller 703 case. Jenny of course made cases for a bunch of other companies including Squale and Doxa.

Question for long time Jenny 70x owners: how does the case come apart for servicing?
