By the 1960s, manually wound watches were falling out of favour. If Hamilton was doing much in wrist watches in that era, it would have been the lamentable Hamilton Electric, or the Buren based automatics that Hamilton had to resort to since they never made a self-wind (automatic) wrist watch. There may have been other Hamilton wrist watches of which I am not aware, but they will most likely be Swiss made. Toward the end of production, I suspect Hamilton was devoting their production to railroad-standard pocket watches, since their attempt at a railroad standard wrist watch (the 505 Hamilton Electric) was such a total disaster.

Interesting, I am referring to Swiss made Hamilton watches.
Wasn't aware that there were Hamilton watches from the 60's that were not Swiss made

I had understood that Hamilton used Certina automatic movements?

If you were to check out Dr. Roland Ranfft’s archive as it pertains to Hamilton, you may find (as I did) that by far the bulk of the Hamilton movements listed, are re-badged Swiss movements. The movements Hamilton used were common to many other watch brands. I posted because you weren’t specific that you were looking for Swiss Hamiltons.

The only Certina movement that I have uncovered that was used by Hamilton was the Kurth Freres (Certina) 25-45 automatic as shown. I have two Certinas with that movement. In my opinion, this movement was on a par with the best automatic wind movements of the era, by most of the prominent watch manufacturers.

Is there a way to determine which Hamilton models used the Kurth Freres movement?
    Thanks

Hamilton seems to have used auto wind movements from Eta, Buren (the micro-rotor movements), and Kurth Freres. But by far the majority of the 1960s era automatic wind movements Hamilton used were by Eta. Based on the search for 1960s vintage Hamilton automatic winding watches, a collector is likely to find the vast majority of the watches they will find will be the Eta ones. Followed by the Buren based models. Kurth Freres based Hamilton automatics? In all my years in this business, I have seen many Certina watches with these KF movements (I have two Certinas with KF movements), but never have seen a Hamilton watch with a KF movement.

Maybe someone who collects vintage Hamilton wrist watches (1960s) has a Hamilton with a KF movement.

Hamilton purchased Bruen in the late 1960’s. This thrust them into the relationship with Heuer, Breitling and Dubois Depraz on creating the 1st automatic chronograph, the Calibre 11, with distinctive crown on the left. This was launched in March of 1969 and widely used on Heuer & Breitling models thru the late 1970’s (as the cal.11, cal 11i, cal.12, cal.14 & cal.15). Hamilton/Bruen’s Internatic with its micro-rotor was the base for this historical movement. From the Hamilton perspective, it can be found in the Chronomatic, Pan-Europe and Fontainebleau models. These models can be found for sale on and off, and run betteren $2000 - $5000 depending on model and condition. Here is my 1969 Hamilton Chronomatic (Cal.11) on original steel bracelet :

Hamilton also made a range of European models. These were Swiss made, and typically had model Number such as 640XX-X. Here is a rare Ca. 1968 Hamilton 600 Broad Arrow Diver Ref. 64034-3 - cal. 64A. This ones a Unicorn, and I was lucky enough to also find original bracelet as shown.

Another Hamilton 600 is the more commonly seen Super Compressor. Same Cal.64 based movement. You should be able to find a nice example around $1200 or so. This is not mine but a pic from Google Images for reference:

Best thing to do is Google and check out images, movements, and styles you like. Once you drill down to specific areas of interest, the fun starts with the “hunt”.

Good luck and I’m sure is Hamilton fans look forward to your future posts with new acquisitions!

Hamilton called this KF movement grade 661. The link shows a KF 25-45 movement, Hamilton grade 661 movement with the rotor marked Hamilton. If one were to be looking to acquire a Hamilton grade 661 watch, better to search Hamilton 661 than KF 25-45. For an idea of what styles of Hamilton watches used this movement, there are several listed on a “popular” on line auction site at the present tme.
