What is the safest way to set the time and wind a vintage mechanical Omega Geneve, cal 601, such as this? Clockwise or anti clockwise etc

I was curious about this too. Is there any risk of harming/damaging the movement going one way instead of the other?

 

Winding CCW won't get you very far, but the time can be set in either direction.*

* - note that if the watch begins to run backwards when setting the time backwards, I would refrain from setting it that way, as the cannon pinion is likely too tight.

 

My Omega Trésor from 1952 (ref. 2624, cal. 283) runs backwards if I set the time CCW even though it was being serviced by Omega Bienne three months ago. And that was also the case at the time I picked it up from Omega...
Does that mean that I should complain about it?

Edit: i just noticed you're talking about winding, not setting the time... I was referring to setting the time

 

Actually no, I am talking about setting the time - I would not make it run backwards as that can cause problems in the escapement.

Not sure it's worth complaining about, but it would be better if the cannon pinion were not quite so tight. Does it do this when fully wound?

 

I just checked it. Fully wound, the second hand just stops but doesn't run backwards if you set time CCW...
