Hey guys, Up for sale is my vintage Doxa Sub 300T Sharkhunter, with synchron case and US Divers Co dial. This is the nicest one of these I've seen. Case is sharp and unpolished, original factory brushing still intact on top. Dial is free of damage, and the lume has aged to a nice even creamy color, matching on the dial plots and hands. The watch is triple-signed by synchron on the dial, crown, and caseback. For some historical context: If you want a watch that Jacques Cousteau wore and don't want to spend crazy money, this might be your best bet. In the late 1960s, Doxa was commissioned by the US Divers Company (at the time run by Cousteau) to make them a dive watch. What resulted was the Doxa Sub 300, the first commercially available swiss dive watch, that launched in 1967. They actually beat out Rolex by a couple of months. The Sub 300 was later followed by the Sub 300T, which is what this one is. The first watches had orange (named “Professional”) dials, but later Doxa added black (“Sharkhunter”), silver (“Searambler”), yellow (“Divingstar”), and blue (“Caribbean”). Perhaps the most unique feature of the watch is the stainless steel bezel, which is inscribed not only with a standard 1 hour timer, but also with the US Navy non-decompression dive chart. This allows the Doxa to function as a rudimentary dive computer. As you begin your dive, you set the bezel timer to the minute hand as you would with any other diver, and then once you reach your maximum depth, you would again consult the bezel. When the minute hand reaches the time corresponding to that depth, you have run out of no-decompression time. Pretty simple to use in practice. Unfortunately because these were made to be used as tool watches, finding one in good shape is difficult. More often than not they were relumed (badly) when the original tritium started to fade away, and the cases tend to be a bit banged up. For a vintage watch, it's a great modern size and is super wearable: 42mm excluding crown, 44.75mm lug to lug, and 20mm lug width, 14mm thick Service history unknown, but keeps time well. Quickset date function works properly, date rolls over, and the unidirectional bezel turns as it should. Not going to lie, I'm not super excited to sell this one. But thanks to Omega killing it at Basel, something has to go. Asking $2700 obo. Paypal with fees on buyers side, or bank transfer. Face to face available in NYC. Not particularly looking for trades but if you have something, feel free to send an offer. Thanks for the space OF! Pictures below:
