Hi all. A friend of mine bought this De Ville on ebay without knowing that redials were something to be concerned about. Any thoughts regarding the watch's authenticity, especially regarding the dial? Thanks in advance. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-OME...BOIz8KsjI%2B0alDzmUNU%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=ncPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
You must be a very good friend to harbour such concern for your friend. The answer to the question is that the dial has been refinished. There is nothing wrong with refinished dials if you are looking for a daily banger that looks smart and perhaps a bit like a watch that has just come out of the showroom. Your friend should be a little bit more concerned about buying a watch without close-up pictures of the movement and inner case back so as to verify if the watch and case have been together since birth. Also pics of the movement would allow your friend to examine its condition and authenticity, and to notice if there were any scratches or rust on the stainless steel components, etc. Watches from the equatorial zones such as the Phillipines often show signs of moisture incursion. Cheers Desmond
