Hello,

I have just purchased this Vintage Cosmic Seamaster. Do you guys think if the components of it are all authentic? The wierd thing is that the Seamaster logo and the ref no are missing from the backplate. Is it means that could be a replacement part or has it been polished to death to keep it shiny? I have no idea…

The first pictures are screenshots feom the listing amd tho others ones are from the guy who I bought it from.

What do you think of it?

Many thanks 😀

Welcome to the forum! I believe the case was worn out and it was polished and re-plated. This is why you do not see the engravement . The rest looks ok, some damage on the hands, very worn out crown. The caliber shows many different hues, I am not sure how typical is that, maybe some parts were replaced? Enjoy the watch if you like it.

That is exactly what I had also thought.......

Really appreciate your thoughts guys! I purchased it for €400 plus +70 shipping. I believe it was a reasonable price but we shall see tomorrow after it arrives.

I think the production date is wrong. The listing says 1960, yet Cosmics didn’t come out until around 1967.

Yeah, in the description it says between 1960-1969. So possibly ‘67-‘69

I have a Seamaster Cosmic. The caseback engraving is extremely shallow and even on pieces showing minimal wear/use the engraving can be very difficult to make out if not completely worn away.

I stand corrected for the production date, it must be indeed from late 60s. Mine is from 1972 and it has a different movement, omega 1012. Yours is more “traditional”, but I do think it has replacement parts just based of the different colors.

Thanks for the additional information. Are you certain about the replacement parts? For me the most important is to be sharp in terms of showing the time. It looks decent imo. But I think I will replace the crown. That one is complitely cooked…

That’s good to know. I’m a bit sad that the engravings are gone, but hey… what can I do now. I will use it anyways and it’s gonna be a great timepiece

There is nothing wrong with it, the movement looks clean, I do not see missing screws etc. The difference in color maybe just due to the photo or due to parts replaced during service. It is totally normal. This is how 565 looks with homogeneous colors, but I did not see many of those, so some variation is possible.

Oh, indeed I can barely see it and I bet yours haven’t even been polished.

Do you have any idea what the word Meister means on the dial? I know its German for Master but is it a company brand or something?

It's a Swiss jeweler and jewelry store that's been around since the late 1800s.
