Hi All, Considering this one: https://amsterdamvintagewatches.com/product/omega-constellation-pie-pan-168-005/ Any thoughts? Your help is much appreciated! Alfred
Dial should be slightly off-white on these. Way too much patina on this watch for the price being asked. gatorcpa
Doesn't look natural and the hands don't match at all. Also, 3 o'clock marker is missing. See the holes next to the calendar window. gatorcpa
I've got pretty much the same one. I haven't got around to this one yet...it's been in my drawer as I found it for over 10 years and needs a service/clean and new crystal/crown. Certainly this one you've posted has been "molested" a bit, and looks a bit nasty for the price. Where would I be best off buying a new (correct) crown and crystal for this one these days? Seems the sources have changed over the last 10 years...who do we like these days?
Plating is shot. I can see that in the photo. Those thin 10-sided crowns haven't been made in decades. Omega offers a more conventional crown to fit that watch. http://cgi.julesborel.com/cgi-bin/matcgi2?ref=Ome cs#167.0005&submit=Search You can always save the original in case you want to sell it with the watch in the future. Nice watch. gatorcpa
Sorry for the late replay....replated eh? I'm wondering who'd do that in Australia? @Gstp Do you have one that is the same as the one on it now? If so I'd be interested, please PM me. Cheers all
I have similar Connie. The shape of the decagonal crown is neat, and aesthetically matches the pie-pan dial, but I find really difficult to use as it slips between the fingers...
Yes they are pretty useless, I suspect many watchmakers exchanged them for something more practical when servicing these.
I'm actually off to the WM's this morning. Might take this one along and give him a look. He's in his 70's and does have an amazing array of parts, sh who knows I might get lucky. I'm sure he'll have a plater he likes as well. Yes this crown is difficult to use, but authenticity/originality is paramount.
