Up for sale is this rare genuine vintage Certina DS-2 Super PH 1000M with gorgeous yellow dial. This big cult classic vintage diver is 100% original and dates from the early late 1960s/early 1970s and is in overall remarkable Excellent+ condition. Additionally this rare bird was recently owned by a US Army doctor and vintage dive watch enthusiast who wore it on his last tour of duty in Afghanistan a few years ago. The new owner will receive a photo of him wearing the watch in uniform on base and also a letter of provenance detailing the watch's exploits in theater. So not only is this hard-to-find Certina a massive Grail in its own right but the military provenance makes it extra special. It comes on a vintage Isofrane dive strap, which is also great added value.

The asking price for this all-time great Certina DS-2 Super with recent military provenance is $3450 USD OBRO including fully insured FedEx shipping worldwide. Bank Wire strongly preferred but Paypal is OK on this transaction with +2% to the buyer. Payment must be made directly to my consignor in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting.

CASE & BACK: Large and heavy 45mm wide (not including crown) x 48mm long x a whopping 18mm thick C-shaped stainless steel case with volcano-style bezel in Excellent vintage condition with only minor scuffs and some very small nicks to the finish. The top of the case appears to have its original satin finish, though it's possible that the sides were buffed a bit at some point in the past. Screw in water-resistant caseback has the personalized engraving of the very first owner way back when. It is also very clean with the original spiral machining still present and just superficial marks so likewise Excellent condition. All correct internal Certina nomenclature of the period is also present and the inner back and case lip show no corrosion.

DIAL & HANDS: Mint condition original striking deep yellow dial with applied luminous-filled bar & square markers, orange accent markers and framed date window. The dial shows no flaws that I can see and has all its original luminous material, which is still light reactive. The tone of the dial has aged to a deep, warm almost amber color. Original hands with original aged luminous on the kite hour and oversized orange minute hand, as well as the square tipped sweep seconds, show a bit more age with some cracking of the lume fill, so more like Excellent. They and will also glow briefly after light exposure.

CROWN: Original signed semi-recessed crown is very clean and screws down tightly to the case and pulls out to the winding and non- hacking time-set positions as it should.

CRYSTAL: Flat high-pressure mineral crystal is extremely clear and free of scratches or marks--Mint.

BEZEL: Original thick ratcheting bidirectional rotating volcano-shaped elapsed time bezel is tight and clean with sharp, well defined knurling--Excellent+. The original black acrylic inlay shows wear and numerous marks from use--Very Good to Excellent original condition--but all numbers are intact and its sunken luminous "12" triangle is intact and has acquired a handsome patina.

MOVEMENT: 28-jewel in-house Certina automatic caliber 25-651 with date complication is running strong and working as it should. Certina often tweaked this high quality movement family to Chronometer standards and it is keeping good time. It has a true slow-set date, although it can be set either backwards or forwards, and must be advanced by going through a full 24-hour rotation. According to the current owner, this movement was last serviced by IWW about 2 years ago and while it is no longer under warranty I do guarantee it to be working well at the time of shipping.

STRAP: This great Certina DS-2 Super comes a vintage black genuine Isofrane strap (ref. 52077) that compliments it beautifully and is in Near Mint condition. These vintage Isofrane straps are great added value to any vintage diver. This watch takes 20mm straps.

EXTRAS: As stated above and making this DS-2 Super even a bit more special, it will also come with a photograph or two of the watch being worn in the Afghanistan theater of combat operations by its previous Army doctor owner and a letter attesting to its exploits over there.
