Holy moly! That's a lot of different models for one decade!
Ohhhh yes! I could see wanting to collect every variant. 15 years ago you probably could for little money.... sadly that ship has sailed.

So it seems that most 70’s snorkels had lollipop seconds hands but I’ve seen some that are straight red or steel hands. I used to think they were replacements but in the Bulova ad above it appears that watch has a straight steel seconds hand. Does anybody know the story on these? Are these other hands legit?

early introduction / models had straight second sweep hands and the hour and minutes hands were also different .... watch in this advert is an early version / model with earlier handset used for the watch, the red " PYLON " second sweep hand [safety red as Bulova used to call them] were used on watches that were a first introduction or re introduction [existing model upgraded] of a model , they were used on the first off the production line / first batch, this of course does not apply to models that specifically used the RED PYLON [second sweep hand]... these spare parts [red second sweep hands] were also available to watch makers to buy and use ... it wouldn't be a far stretch that a watch maker bought and used them in their repairs as well
