·Many of you guys who follow me on instagram (@vintage_watch_emporium) or indeed followed my journey on this forum know that when I first got into vintage watch collecting my very first watch was an early OMEGA Geneve.
This ignited a passion that led to me buying another less than a month later, and a third not long after that. To date I have owned over 10 and still have 5 in my collection. I have much more than Omega Geneve's in my collection today, but they always have been an integral part of my collection.
Today I am offering one of these 5, arguably the rarest of the bunch - My Omega 2748 (AKA as I like to call it, THE OG). This reference was the first "jumbo" OMEGA Geneve that Omega produced and this one dates to 1954. Not only does just being jumbo add to its rarity but this is a version of the model that is scarcely seen with a sub dial that is submerged slightly lower than the flat sub dials, that we see on 95% of these models.
During the years I have collected I have owned only 2 models like this and have only seen maybe 3 or 4. The only advertising material I have seen for a Geneve like this is:
And here is one such example of the reference 2748 with the same dial (albeit with gold hardware):
Now this example I am offering is particularly good condition as you can see below:
Dial: As you can see for a watch that is 67 years old, this dial is remarkably good, almost blemish free. This model is famous for its triangular indices and two-tone cross haired dial. It is what I fell in love with when I started this hobby and what kept me coming back for more - pure class. I note from the photos that there is a slight blemish by 4 O'clock and a few marks on the sub dial. The last of these photos is in artificial light, and are more representative of what we see to the naked eye. I would probably say despite these minor imperfections this is probably the best preserved dial on a geneve that I have seen in the flesh. All hands appear to be original.
Case: The case is relatively sharp and is the larger of the two case sizes for these Omega Geneves from this era, measuring 36mm diameter without crown. I would say that the case has probably seen some hand polishing during its years, however the chamfers are still defined as shown in the pictures. Crown appears to be original.
Movement: This watch has been in my possession for around 1 year and the 266 calibre movement is running well. It has not been serviced during my ownership so I recommend that the buyer has the watch serviced, although this is of course up to your discretion. The movement received acclaim at the Geneva observatory after winning awards for its accuracy and hence why this line was created in honour of this achievement.
Strap: This case fits 19mm wide straps and will be supplied on a genuine leather strap from my collection of the winners choosing. The pictured strap will not be included.
Box/papers: Omega box included, not likely original. No papers.
Please observe all photos and the description with care as I offer no returns.
Feedback: Eight sales so far on here and eight satisfied buyers:
