The dial, hands, and crown seem newer than the watch, if it is indeed 1954 (no movement pic to see SN), so likely service replacements. But it otherwise seems okay. Not worth too much more than the current bid, IMO (i.e. not much more than 150-200 GBP).

Thanks adam78....I will maybe ask the seller for a picture of the movement, as you point out.

They have just replied quoting the serial number as "serial no. is 13139996 dating the piece to 1952."

It sounds like they are just an antique type seller on the bay so suspect they don't want to or can't take the back off...still, leaves some suspicion there I think?...I will try again....

    Reply regarding movement picture....

Thank you for your reply. I'm afraid our watchmaker is away on holiday at the moment and won't be back in time before the auction ends to open the case to photograph it - please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.

    Kind Regards

Those hour markers look really loooong for the era, circa 1952... Compare with this sampling of similar watches.

    Nice watch though.

The hands are definitely wrong. The reference number in the listing is wrong. The listing has has the watch as a 1952 and a 1954; one is wrong. Buying this, IMHO, would also be wrong.

Franken watch. Dennison case, which has housed a 30t2PC. Now they put in a slightly later 265 and added an early 60ies dial.

    Avoid IMO

I find these statements infuriating. "...our watchmaker...". Give me a break! Is he the only one in the place allowed to use the pocket knife? Or is he, which is more likely, completely made-up? An online seller pretending to run an established antiques "house". Pretentious pricks, the lot of them.

I don't buy unless I can see the condition of the movement, inside case back and case edges for corrosion etc. to make sure I'm not buying a mess.

Once they start giving excuses for not showing something. I don't bother bidding
