In 2013, there were two very significant releases in Omega’s catalog. One was the Speedmaster Professional “Racing,” which Fratello quickly dubbed “Tintin” due to its story with the Belgian reporter and his adventures on the Moon. The other was the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon. It was a revolutionary watch at the time, as […]

Maybe I’m getting too persnickety in my old age, but I still think being able to tell the time on a watch is important:

Very nice article.

I'm very happy to see more DSOTM. Although really not happy about the 44.25mm size and especially not happy with the cost. Omega is huffing something strong to think those watches are $15k.

Omega continues to suffer from inconsistent design language. Some say variety is nice, but I do think it holds Omega back as a brand. Just within this release we have an automatic, manual movement, different case sizes, date and no date.

Pass for me.

Nice article, but I've no idea who these are for. Massive, expensive, DSOTM design language has aged horribly

I think they're nice watches, but none are really pulling at my heart strings. I'm also tired of watches that are illegible and Omega is already behind on quality lume (I have much cheaper watches that glow brighter and are easier to read), some of these have to be the best example of a difficult to read dial.

Now if they released a new Ultraman, I "might" have regretted my recent Speedmaster professional purchase!

I have the "Pitch Black" DSOTM and the lume on it is absolutely insane. The green lume lights up at the slightest hint of darkness.

Here's a reddit post with a pic (not mine):

Really like these, but like many I wish they were smaller! I could never wear these sizes and no amount of working out is going to fatten up my wrists enough. 50mm lug-to-lug... bleh.

Black+Black (310.92.44.51.01.005) sandblasted ceramic is my pick, at least visually. 😎

I know it’s a proper Omega with a proper movement, but to a casual observer it looks a lot like the Omega Swatch “mission to….” Series, also ceramic and with omega branding all over them. Why pay £13,000 to have a watch that looks like you spent £300. A potential marketing disaster as the brand identity gets diluted.

But how long does it glow?

Oh, my Speedmaster professional lights up like the fire from a thousand suns, but only after it's been exposed to sunlight or charged by a flashlight, then it lasts for a minute or two before it fades into a dull glow.

they are nice watches especially the black with white indicies. I have a Soeedy Racing 44.25 which is very close so not going to buy.
Regarding size i measured my Racing from bezel edge to edge i got 40mm its just the asymetrical case that brings it to 44.25.

Are you sure about that?

My current DSOTM bezel diameter is 42mm, and it does wear like a 42mm.

I believe the racing dial is the same size.

NASA astronauts post-Gemini program feedback (1967) and again post-Apollo 13 feedback (1970):
"We need a very legible Speedmaster with practical bezel"
... Omega (2025) : " Yes "
🤨
Then again: de gustibus et coloribus non est dispundantum
(even when the color is black)

Dear Phill, you should purchase a seiko chrono with a 60 practical bezel.

Again lots of laughs with YouTubers mentioning we can never see the Dark Side of the Moon
😄
Most people have no knowledge of basic astronomy and don't know the difference between "Dark Side" and "Far Side" of the Moon. The "Far Side" always turned away from us (except Libration).
Each place on the Moon is about 14 Earth days in Sunlight and 14 Earth days in the Dark... so we see the "Dark Side" during Lunar phases (e.g. Half Moon shows half-in-the-dark and "New Moon" with the Sun behind the Moon shows the complete Near Side in the Dark).
What this is doing for the brand ? Well some people mentioned it but I couldn't care less ...

Interesting discussion - I’ve always been curious about the DSOTM line but haven’t had the chance to try one on yet. From photos and videos, they look impressive technically, especially the full-ceramic construction and movement finishing, but I do wonder how they wear in real life given the 44 mm size and ceramic weight.

Seems like most people either love the presence or find it too large for daily wear. The legibility comments here are interesting too - I’ve noticed the same in photos where the black-on-black variants look cool but might be tricky to read quickly.

I love the Speedmaster, but Omega really needs to cut-down and refine the amount of variations. It seems like we get a new model every few months.

It completely dilutes the model range, and makes it very difficult for a buyer to choose (the paradox of choice).

Sometimes less is more.

I share the legibility concerns others have voiced. In pictures they look okay and I find the one with the red chrono hand a nice overall aesthetic (and also like the idea of manual wind thinness) but I’d want to see it in person under normal lighting conditions. A hard to read dial is usually an instant turn off for me.

I also like the novelty of ceramic but not at 15k.
